View Full Version : MSRP DEALERS
GOTWA 18th June 2005, 10:25 Since the topic of bike prices comes up quite often, thought it might be nice to start a thread dedicated to dealers known to sell at MSRP.
I'll start...
Shumate HD, Spokane, WA.
EDIT: I NOW RECANT THIS STATEMENT AFTER A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP!
If you want MSRP and AWESOME people go to the folks who once made Spokane great but moved on, got he extra miles and visit: http://www.highdeserthd.com/
These are essentially the same folks (they all moved on) and they WILL treat you right. Kurt, Peggy, and Dave.
Shumate Spokane has become nothing more than money grubbing, RUB cattering, slags. THey have transitioned fro Delaer to Stealer.
decman 18th June 2005, 11:57 HD of Long Branch NJ
They also use the HD frieght
and setup is under $200 for any bike.
no other dealer charges
You have to be careful some dealers
sell at MSRP but get you in the extra fees.

Alasportster 18th June 2005, 13:44 Thunder Creek HD in Chattanooga. (I assume it's "sister dealerships" Killer Creek and Mountain Creek in Ga, are also.)
They seem to be good people to work with, at least my experience was good, especially how they dealt with the one warranty claim I had.
I live in Birmingham, and they made specific arrangements with me to be "in and out" based on my planned travel through the area on a Saturday and Sunday.
Their freight and fees are about what we might call the "msrp version", some dealers are lower and some are higher, from what I've seen reported.
JohnMonk 18th June 2005, 15:17 Cool Springs HD in Franklin TN (south of Nashvegas). They don't have it on the sticker but they will. I dealt with Jason and had a really enjoyable experience.
wickedsprint 18th June 2005, 15:18 Hey I can verify maverick cycles of cheyenne wyoming on your list, they also have cheap freight/setup and like 20 bucks for document fees.
turfpro 18th June 2005, 15:44 Santa Barbra,CA Harley was msrp plus a little under $300 for doc, and set up fees. Plus they will give %100 trade in on a big twin within 1 year, and free tires for life. I think they charge $100 to mount them though.
coonass 18th June 2005, 16:39 Harley Davidson of North Texas - Garland, TX and Carrollton (the old Lee Wood)
Texas Harley Davidson - Hurst, TX
Myself and friends have all bought at MSRP at each this year. Paid less for my 05, than I did in 95 at Savannah HD.
Jeffytune 18th June 2005, 17:29 Columbia Harley Davidson, Vancouver Washington Just freight and set-up.
dabronco 18th June 2005, 17:32 Our dealer here in Las Vegas is notorious for ''customizing'' their bikes prior to sale. Adding all the Screaming eagle pipes an a/c, and grips and mirrors, and stuff. They then add it to the price, (plus labor, of course), and it really jacks up the price!
BUT, a guy I worked with told them when he bought his Dyna, he didn't want all that stuff, and to take it off. They told him they couldn't cuz of policy or the stock takeoffs weren't still there or something, and he said he wasn't paying for stuff he didn't want, and so they took all the upgrades off the price! NO SHIT! Worth a try!

NORTH CAROLINA
J and E Harley-Davidson, Winterville, NC (*Reported 27 Apr 2004)

This is my local dealer and they sell above MSRP. Sometimes the price tags on the bikes on the floor are marked MSRP, but if you compare it to the MSRP on the Harley web site you'll find J&E has inflated the MSRP. Most of the bikes have accessory allowances attached to the selling price. Many times the accessory allowance is $3,000.00. Another catch is the accessories are sold at retail and there is the additional labor charge added on for installing the accessories.
In a few minutes, I'm gonna ride to Rocky Mount Harley Davidson, over 40 miles away, and pick-up some parts. RM HD has always sold at MSRP or below and they were absent from the list.
I bought my 2004 Roadster in November used with less than 3,000 miles from RM HD for $7,200.00. I consider that a good deal. Additionally, they gave me 10% off on all parts for three months after the sell that were for the Roadster.

Most of their rides have security added.
wickedsprint 20th June 2005, 17:47 You could really screw the dealers installing rejetted bikes if they refuse to take the pipes and AC off if theya re not 50 state compliant, gives you some more leverage. I would only do this if they are being pricks about not keeping the stock pipes and replaced them with crappy aftermarket stuff that I would choose somehing different. I hate other people putting that kinda stuff on mybike when I can do itmyself and I won't pay for it.

NOT. Not only do they not sell at MSRP, their Mechanics don't know sh :censor , and their sales are blowhards. Very bad expierence trying to deal with them. And anyone I know in Memphis area stays away from them.
One guy there told me close to $500 for new rear tire incl labor.

I live in Columbus, OH and last week bought my first Harley a new 05 XL 883 Custom from Hales HD in Mansfield. They sold me the bike for $500 less than MSRP + Tax & Title out the door, no $195 HD ship charge or dealer prep. They also give 20% off anything you buy through their online store. Local Columbus dealers all wanted $1000 to $1500 more for the bike before Tax & Title, it was well worth the drive from Columbus.

ORANJ 7th July 2005, 23:43 OCEAN STATE HARLEY IN WARWICK AND ITS SISTER SHOP IN EXETER RI HAVE ALWAYS SOLD AT MSRP WITH NOTHING MORE THAN HARLEY RECOMENDS FOR SET UP (200 BUCKS). I bought my 2004 Custom
from Rocket Harley Davidson In Alabama and i Can say That They are a bunch Of Pricks. They Lied To Me left and right when i bought mine.
they act just like run of the mill used car salesman. They patronize You to Your face and just fill you're ears full of BS. I paid well over MSRP out of ignorance. Never again. As a matter of fact I'm Going to write The MoCo a lengthy letter about It. It almost turned Me Off on harleys altogether.
I'll eventually See how another dealer treats me and I'll travel out Of state If I have To. harley makes the best motorcycle In the world IMO but I have
Yet to have a fair time with a dealer. The way they run they're business
they might as well be selling dope. :(
Sorry To be so negative, but I just don't want anybody To make The same
mistake I did. i'm thankful for all you folks on this website that help keep Me
informed :D
MusclePump 28th July 2005, 23:02 I had previously posted about Destination Harley being a-OK. I take that back. They sell at MSRP, but if you want anything else from them (other than someone to sell you a bike), they're worthless.

I know a few guys that bought their bikes at Hales recently
They will give you a good deal but I hope you dont have to fight with them on a warranty claim like one of them did
I have heard about this from several others that they will sell you the Bike and not want to Honor the warranty
I hope you have better luck with them
Xlch 721 3rd August 2005, 19:08 I purschased my 05 1200 Custum from Ben Breece Harley Davidson and so far I cant complain
The rear pulley was warped and they fixed me right up and offered to give me another bike to ride and even a car to drive to go get something to eat while I waited
Only took like 40 minutes to fix the bike and I got a whole new wheel complete with a new tire
They have a pretty cool Museum there with alot of Vintage Bikes so I just scoped it out while I waited
I got a good deal on the Bike when I bought it
500 bucks under MSRP no Freight and Setup/Dealer Prep 4 free shirts, the standard HOG membership a 15% coupon thats good for a year and they told me that any new parts installed within the first 60 days will be covered under the original 2 year warranty
I have had it for about 3 weeks now and I am having a Stage 1 treatment done in a couple of weeks when I take it in for the 1000 mile service
No more Kicking the darn thing like my 1966 XLCH :D :D :D

jsnell22001 23rd September 2005, 22:41 I can confirm that none of the AZ dealers listed below are MSRP dealers. Buddy Stubbs and Chosa's were significantly over MSRP and would not deal. Kev M 29th September 2005, 17:09 Smaltz's HD, Eagle PA
www.smaltzhd.com
These guys have been an MSRP dealer since Stretch Smaltz bought the place in the early 90s.
Not only that, I've seen him discourage a guy who was ordering a bike from putting too much doo-dads on it. He'd say "I don't want to see you put all sorts of stuff on it that you're gonna wind up deciding you don't like, then taking off and hanging in your garage. Ride it, get to know it, then spend some $"
I've also seen him turn away people who were unlicensed/unexperienced. This couple came in (this must have been 10 years ago) and were asking him about buying two used bikes right off the showroom floor, that day. He talked to them for a while (I was watching) and discovered neither had ever ridden a motorcycle before. In his usual gentle manner he VERY politely said he would not sell them those bikes today. He said that he could easily take their money but wouldn't feel right without them having at least gotten a license and preferably taking the MSF course. He gave them some info on it and said that if they decided that was the route they were gonna take to come back and he'd be happy to sell them whatever they want.
STAND UP GUY... STAND UP DEALERSHIP.

I've never seen a MSRP bike at Waugh's in VA, seems inflated to me. I have seen them at Colonial Harley in Colonial Heights,Va and at Richmond H-D. I've never had a H-D dealer that would not sell at MSRP though. Just show them the money! Works for me anyway!

FWIW - Smaltz may take the MSRP thing a little TOO far. Their price on a traded-in 05 883C (no taxes paid, and only about $250 of sissy bar added) was $7,595...MSRP.

are you sure it was trade and not consignment?
They've long accepted consignment bikes allowing the owners to set the prices (even if they were outrageous).
I've always stayed away from the used Harley market. It just never made sense for many years. People always asking new or near new prices for 5 year old or older bikes. I'd rather have new than save a couple hundred bucks. Heck, I'd rather have new than save a grand.
Of course, last year I found my SIL a BRAND NEW 04 883 for only $5800 cause a Jersey Car dealer won it at auction and had no idea how the Harley market works. They figured, like a car, the first thing people did would be to negotiate 5% off the asking. :doh

GOTWA 10th October 2005, 20:59 As the starter of this thread I'm obligated to report back that sadly, I do not think that Shumate, Spokane is now an MSRP dealer. I haven't looked closely but it seems that the prices I have noticed are much higher than they used to be and the dealership no longer advertises themselves as a MSRP dealer.
Unfortunately, a few of the folks that made Shumate, Spokane so great packed up and left for greener pastures. I think the fact they all went together probably says something.
Dave, the prior Shumate, Spokane GM and partial owner sold back his share and bought up a couple dealerships in southern Idaho. So two other employess quit, went to work for him down there and got well deserved promotions.
So, fortunately for the folks in the general Boise area, you now have three great people and two awesome dealerships to deal with. And yes, at MSRP. So if you're in their area, look up Dave, Kurt, or Peggy. They WILL do you right by you.

Thanks for the greetings.
I wound up buying privately via Craigslist - an 04 883, taxes paid plus some goodies, for less than bluebook. The 05 bike at Smaltz's (still on their website) isn't a consignment - the salesman said they aren't taking consignments because they're out of space. I guess they know what prices will fly, but I'd have been more inclined to buy if they'd at least been a few bucks under sticker.
To keep this on topic, I can report that Montgomery County/Valley Forge HD sells MSRP.
Hawgsweat 12th October 2005, 03:40 I bought my 2002 Fat Boy from Davis HD in Burlington, N.C. They are msrp dealers. Now that I am in Virginia I found Black Wolf HD in Abingdon to be poor in every catagory.I asked the salesman if they sold at msrp and he said they were close to it. I pointed out that they were $800.00 over msrp and he seemed to think nothing was wrong with it.Service dept. doesn't care about the customer and forget the extra mile, they won't go an inch for you.I found Wytheville HD (Virginia) to be unpleasant to deal with. I offered them $6500 for a 2004 883 standard that had around 400 miles on it. It did have a passenger seat with pegs on it as well as a sissy bar. It also had an ugly scrape on top of the gas tank that went right through the paint to the bare metal.Looked like they put nail polish on it to hide it. They would not replace the tank nor would they take my offer. The sales manager told me he "could not" take my offer. We ended up going to Smith Brothers HD in Tenn. and got a new 2005 883 standard for $6500 out the door, no added costs. They are not especially friendly and there were no other perks added. They just had a black Sportster they didn't want to have in stock anymore. When I bought my used Fat Boy from Davis HD my wife and I both got t-shirts, money off for any accessories added then and a cleaning kit. Smith Brothers gave us the bike and nothing else. They didn't even mention that HOG membership was free with the bike!I can't reccomend Black Wolf, Wytheville or Smith Brothers to anybody. Let the buyer beware.Only Davis HD in Burlington ,N.C. made us a deal. And I won't even start about Robbin' Ray Price in Raleigh, N.C. where I used to live except to say crook is not too strong a word.

I bought my 2005 bike early in the model year, and paid MSRP (I had checked the pricing for the bike and accessories on the HD site) at Waugh's- they treated me one hell of a lot better than a couple of other local dealerships that I went to for a price quote. brownjams 16th November 2005, 17:25 I see someone mentioned Ben Breece in Ottawa, Ohio already. I thought I'd add to that they are always MSRP and have had free freight and set up for around a year now. they're great people to deal with and very fair prices on labor. around $50 for 10,000 miles service when I change my own oils, which I do. I live in Michigan and ride 110 miles to them, gladly.
for those in Michigan, the local dealers raise the price with the temps, they lower them to msrp in the cold winter months. Motown is one of those dealers. when I bought my Heritage they quoted me $6000 more for the same bike I bought at Breece for msrp.

Bought my 06 883C msrp NO freight, set up, dealer prep or doc fees... Free extended warranty, 1 year free basic HOG membership, 15% off parts for 15 days... Sales not pushy and very informed, parts help friendly and informed up to date info... Service manager seems knowledgable... Will know more on service dept in few days... Labor seemed little steep, 157 bucks to install slip ons, hi flo ac, and rejet... Over all service excellent so far... Almost forgot 2 t shirts and the big Harley catalog
DarkStar883 14th April 2006, 15:11 C & S H-D in Mount Pleasant Michigan sells at MSRP, no other deals save for a 10% on parts for 30 days...
flag888 14th April 2006, 15:23 Lighthouse Harley, Huntington, NY. MSRP
Harley of Suffolk, Oakdale, NY. NOT MSRP. Told me, $1000 over MSRP, that's just the way it is!
EezyE 14th April 2006, 23:09 Thunder Creek in Chattanooga, TN is an MSRP dealer. They have started to do away with the freight and dealer prep charges as well.
Stevlom 14th April 2006, 23:40 ILLINOIS
Conrad's Harley-Davidson, Joliet, IL
Heritage Harley-Davidson, Lisle, IL (*Reported 23 Aug 2002)
Oak Lawn Harley-Davidson, Oak Lawn, IL
Walter Brothers Harley Davidson - Peoria IL (*Reported 29 Feb 2004. MSRP after adjustments for fees & discounts)
When I was shopping last summer I stopped at each of the above dealers. Oaklawn advertises to be an MSRP dealer, no freight and no setup. This to me is what it means to be an "MSRP Dealer". When I was ready to buy they did not have a 1200c I wanted. I could have waited for 2006 models but found one a Heritage although I paid freight and no setup I got money off on parts. It is also 20 miles closer to home.
Walters Bros. wanted msrp, freight and setup of $500 on sportsters. Concrad did not talk msrp the same as Oaklawn. A dealer not on the list for good reason is Wildfire. When I talked to them they wanted 2006 freight charges and $400 setup on a 2005 two weeks before the new models arrived. They also add accessories and charge full retail plus labor.
Don Burton 5th August 2006, 17:47 Last week, Kelly's House of Harley in Billerica, Mass. was advertising a brand new end of year 06 1200 R for about $1000 under MSRP and last winter, they were advertising them for MSRP with no charge for freight. LIttleton, NH H-D also seems to have good prices. Gainesville, FL H-D sells Sportsters at MSRP with no added dealer fees and Harley-Davidson of Crystal River has been known to do so as well.
sfxtech 6th August 2006, 01:24 Las Vegas, is anywhere from 500-1500 OVER MSRP. They try to screw you on the freight charges, when I bought mine they were trying to charge 250 just to assemble it, and another 250 for something else. (and that was AFTER the hike on the MSRP. Then they go ahead and put anywhere from 500-2,000 of "accessories" on the bike and charge anywhere from 100-500 in "labor" for putting these parts on that you didn't want in the first place.
I was lucky with mine, I managed to get the only decent sales guy in the place... he was one of the managers... so I guess he wasn't a salesmen. Anyway, I got mine for MSRP, and they knocked the freight down to 120, and took the other 250 off... they had only put grips and pegs on mine so it was only about 150 for parts and "labor."
Gary7 1st February 2007, 23:22 Harley Davidson of Greenville, SC will sell at MSRP with no phony dealer prep charges added on. They do add the freight charge that is listed on the HD web site.
In addition, if you buy a new bike from them you are flagged in the computer and get 10% off on all future parts and accessory purchases. This includes clothing, or anything else sold in the store.
robert 14th February 2007, 18:21 Matthew's HD in Fresno, CA sells at MSRP. Went there to look at 883L for the ol' lady this weekend, great service, knowledgable sales gal, and she was VERY thorough about putting my girl on every bike in the showroom to show her why each one would or wouldn't work, thereby eliminating everything but the Low, which I wanted in the first place.
On the other hand, we left and went to HD of Fresno and their price was $1400 more for the same bike. They automatically install the security system and charge you for it, can't get a bike from them without it. Also, a lot of bikes in the showroom had the system armed, and they wouldn't turn it off for us, so you have to try to fit yourself to a bike that's screaming at you. Bad place to go!!!
rider29206 14th February 2007, 20:25 Harley Haven Columbia, SC/Cayce, SC has always sold at msrp. Also can get up to 15% off accessories at time of bike purchase. They give me 15% off all the time now but not sure if this is equal treatment for all.
zane121 5th March 2007, 01:35 I tried buying a Sportster from Shumate HD in Spokane Wa this week but walked. They would sell at MSRP but a few small add on's. 295 or 495 for dealer prep depending on what salesman you talked to. Of course 210 for freight. What made me walk is on the last day of the month they had a Feb special runinng for maching up to 500.00 in accessories. When I went in the offered a 11.9% rate on the loan! I told them no way but they said it was the only option for that day because I came in so late. Of course the next day they call with a rate 1/2 of that but now would'nt honor the 500 match in accessories. In fact they would'nt even give 10% off of labor or accessories. So I told them no thanks and next week I'll head down to Boise and look at bikes there. This has been way more frustrating than buying a truck any day!
Duane Wood 5th March 2007, 03:35 Highway 101 H-D, in Coos Bay, Oregon. It was worth every minute of my 7 hour drive to beat the local cheaters here in Washington. Good scenery too!
xtheunknown 5th March 2007, 14:44 I went into Manchester (NH) Harley-Davidson yesterday to look at Dynas and Softail Standards and even though I had heard they sell at MSRP, I was shocked to see every bike (didn't look at the Sportys) marked up at least $2500 to $3000. Why would I pay more for a bike than MSRP?
It looks like Boston Harley-Davidson offers bikes at MSRP and a couple of other dealers in NH.
I refuse to pay more than MSRP for a bike. I thought HD was over this mark up thing?

I was at Manchester (NH) Harley-Davidson today - 3/10/07 and saw plenty of markup. I was curious about a trade and will not trade my 1200R there if I trade it at all.
bakins 7th May 2007, 02:58 HD oF Atlanta (in Lithia Springs, GA) sold me my 2006 883R in July of 2006 for MSRP. They also took of the "premium paint" charge when I told the sales guy I really wanted black (it is orange). Of course, the orange has really grown on my. I worked with Jeff. I stop by just to browse and he is still friendly and says hi.
mstngjoe 4th June 2007, 21:32 American Motorcycle Classics HD in Albany, Oregon sold me an 05 XL1200R for MSRP and that included frieght and setup. That was a year ago. Great people to deal with. Highly recommended. Told me they will sell ANY bike at MSRP. They beat out all the Portland Dealers by about $2000 on a new Sporty. That's a whole lotta ca$h.

Old thread.......but the guys in Albany are still doing good deals.
My '07 Pacific Blue Pearl XL883 was $6800 out the door.
So if you do the math....that's $55 less than the MSRP on the MoCo site. And my price included freight, registration & license...no "setup" fee.
See Ken for a deal.

Not for Buell's!! Went there in 05 to but an 03 Buell XB12s (red - because they decided not to carry Buell's anymore.) for an
ADVERTISED (Cycle Trader) sticker price of $7999.and after standing there about a 1/2 hour, and receiving absolutely zero response, I headed out the front door and a saleslady asked "can i help you?" I said " I want to buy that Buell".
She said " you like that don't you?" nodding her head and I said "that has yet to be determined. Used examples can be had for half that price so it's up to ya'll. " She tried to run my credit three times and I refused to give my SSN. I said "look, it's simple, I'll bring you a check for $7999 and you give me the title." She replied that after dealer prep and what not it would be $9500. This may well have been MSRP for an 03 XB12S in 05 but, guess what?, if i pull over on Valentine's day to the side of the road to buy a dozen roses because the vendor's sign said: one dozen roses for $12 and I say "I'll take a dozen roses" and the vendor replies "that'll be $30, $12 plus $18 for freight charges and what not." - I'll tell him to kiss my ass every time.
1200 sporty 15th June 2007, 20:42 just wanted to confirm that in the list that dustyjacket has up i bought from theils wheels in upper sandusky ohio and they are an MSRP dealer and also they do not charge freight or prep. they are wonderful people would suggest to anyone that can get to upper sandusky.
Muttley 20th June 2007, 20:44 I'll vouch for GCHD in Mayer. I drove 200 miles each way to see them and they did me right (April '07). Saved something over $1000 on my 883 (!) They have a couple other shops near Sedona and Flagstaff, I believe.

robeans 5th July 2007, 02:52 I just got my 883 for MSRP at Shumate Harley in Kennewick, WA. They are pretty good all around with the bikes, but they gouge on the accessories.
gsmith79 8th August 2007, 16:39 I can verify that the dealer listed as "Marion Harley-Davidson, Marion, IN" sells at MSRP without any freight or setup fees. The name of the dealership is actually Stone's Harley-Davidson. I bought my XL 1200N there in July and am very happy I did. The people there were friendly and helpful, and the dealership is only about an hour north of Indianapolis. I'd check 'em out if you're looking in the Indianapolis area.
