Hi Guys

i normally hang around the nightster forum as that is what i got, but my all time fav harley is the xr1000..
i have this mad idea of buying a cheap 883r and modifying it to look like one.
reason i pick 883r is coz of the wheels ,twin clocks, lack of chrome and they are fairly cheap..
i would like to do it properly ie twin carbs on the right and pipes on the left..
i live in u.k so dont have to bother so much with emissions..
my question is does anyone know who builds heads with exhaust and intake ports on the other side ?

Jono,

Look in the thread below this I wrote called: This is the XR the factory should have built.

Mert Lawwill sells all the parts to convert a late model evolution engine to a XR configuration with dual carbureters. The parts are expensive, but he is the only one making parts to do this conversion.

There is a link on that thread to his website. Hope this helps you my friend. :)

Just wait a year or so longer for the XR1200 Maybe....

But for what its worth, I have heard of guy's using two FRONT cyl heads ?? It would require some machine work and some specialized Cams etc....

I would love to see it done wth the newer 1200 XB heads like is on the rubbermounts. Those are the best heads HD has put on anything yet......That would likely be an awsome setup.....

Milmat,

I have seen that done on iron heads, but just mocked up. I have only heard of one person actually pulling this off. (again on an ironhead). How successful it was I don't know.

The concept is certainly possible but the conflict with the rear cylinder exhaust and the front cylinder intake makes for some very tricky plumbing. The cams are easy enough to have custom ground if needed.

The XR style head configuration is the only way you are going to be able to run dual carbs successfuly without conflicts with the exhaust piping.

But, who knows, maybe somebody will actually try to do this. :geek

I wanna say STD builds evo heads setup for dual right side carbs, and left side exhaust....
I know that Hot Dock in Japan does it but they are 4 valve heads.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but what's this about Hot Dock 4 valve heads ? Sounds interesting and pricey.

Hi again. I'll try to put a couple more pictures on in the future, I had a hell of
a time getting this picture on. I'm a wrench not a computer geek. I can't even
begin to guess how much time I had in welding and machining this set-up. The
guy I did it for hasn't finished the motor yet. RL

Its a long not so happy story, but I LOVED that bike, and I believe it loved me! I've longed to have that bike back for 15 years. Part of my healing was the purchasing the '06 and making sure it would out run the XR. So far so good, but man what a mean looking bike that was....... If I could XR an XL........ I think I'm going to bed now.
