View Full Version : Form a funnel?

Has anybody tried a form a funnel? I was thinking of buying one before my next oil change. Every time I pull the filter, I end up puking oil all over the front of the bike. This seems like a pretty good way to prevent that from happening.

I use a cut up 2 liter bottle, an idea I got off the forum here, which works well for the oil filter. BUT, I see many other uses for that product in the video which might make it quite useful.

I just let my oil drain and make a mess, and then wipe up later. That way i know some parts of my bike get oil.

When I change the oil on my Sporty I use a plastic tray funnel thing that I bought for this purpase, It slides under the filter and directs the oil into a suitable container. Then I kick the container so the oil spills all over the floor. Speedy Dry is my best friend.

I take half a file folder, cut a little notch in the middle of the short side and slid it under the oil filter. The notch allows it to slid up around the sending unit a little passed the edge of the oil filter.

Just take a piece of tin or aluminum and bend a trough to push up under the filter when you pull it. That's what I did, and it cost nothing. You could use cardboard too if that's all you have.

After trying a couple of different things (2 L plastic bottle, formed aluminum funnel) I just went ahead and spent the $20 for the HD one and it really worked great for me...

I'll go to NAPA and get one before my next oil change. That's for sure. ;)
