I saw somewhere that the stock belt is good to 100 hp. Are there belts to handle over 100 hp or is changing to a chain your only option at that point?

G'day

ya startin to get near the limit of belts at that sort of HP....the main prob is that a belt is not changed when it starts to wear, everyone waits until they break.

I'm goin to a 520 race chain on the sporty with the new 88" motor as I can see the wear on the chain and will change it when it's gettin sad.
This should stop the broken belt problem.

G'day Gordy

Sure was....but I've found a new chain lube that DOESN'T fling off and go all over everything...

Even the red wheels on the Duc stayed clean

These new Z ring chains are pretty good too..

I still prefer a belt but when ya making bigger HP on a daily ride they have their limitations. :(

I'd still stick with a belt at 1200cc

Thanks for the info Stevo. Post the lube info, I'd like to know also. I'll be back in the states in December for a bit of R&R/Haunting of dealerships.

I know this will sound sacreligious but I was using honda lube with teflion on my trumpit and it dryed up with no sling off worked like a champ (and it was alot cheaper than harley lube with teflion)

Flathead's correct about Honda's brand of lube. Very good stuff. Friend of mine uses it on his Shadow ACE. No sling. Price is good. If it works great for less money, why not?

Had a friend come back from R&R in Colorado, grinning ear to ear. Wanted a Yahama but they didn't even have a show model. On a whim he went over to Pikes Peak HD and ended up buying a VRod. At 115hp the damn thing has a belt drive. Of course, I had to give him a ration of shit about buying a wet sump bike....

Would it be possible to upgrade the sporties to the '04/'05 buell belts? Or would that require expensive pulley upgrades etc?

I was origionally going to use a Buell belt...as I've used them a few times with a machined down rear pulley on big twins to fit a wider rear tire.

Problem is I'm going to a fair amount of HP and also need reliability....I'm intending to travel to Sydney for racing a few times a year.....about 5000+ kays round trip with drag racin in the middle..
