I made an appointment for my 1,000 mile service next week. However, after reading up on this forum and consulting my FSM, I'm going to cancel the appointment and do it myself. Oil & tranny fluid change; check primary chain, inspect cables, etc. I bought mine used, without warranty so I'm not locked in to having it done by an approved shop or anything.
I just finished putting on my HurricaneFlow A/C. At first I was a little intimidated, but just reasoned it through. I put on my SE IIs a while back and will be swapping out my handlebars next week. It's amazing what a couple of successes will do for your confidence.

It's cool doing your own stuff, plus you know it's right. If you did pipes and AC then you should rejet that carb. Lots of info if you do a search. You can use a kit like myself or just change one of the jets. I forget which jet if that's all your doing, it might be the main. That's the same bike my bro has, nice.

I've seen numerous posts on jetting. When I talked to my local delalership, they said probably just have to change the slow jet.
After my A/C install last night, I went for a short test ride. The bike felt sluggish at low rpm and did not have the zip in the higher rpm band, plus I had a couple of carb farts on the trip. So, I know it has to be done (my bike ran like crap). I was wondering if it would better to have the dealer jet it to get it "just right". I'm not sure if they have a dyno there to test it or do they just change a jet and then test ride to see how it runs?

I had mine done by a reputable dealer. I hate adjusting carbs because you have to keep testing and pulling the carb to adjust. If you have patience and time you can do it yourself for sure. I had a Yost Kit put in mine, a little more envolved and nothing I wanted to do myself.

Yep

Just dropped mine off. He said it would only be a half hour labor and around $4.00 for the jet. He was able to squeeze me in on short notice for Monday. I can't wait...

Edit: What's the Yost kit?

I am curious, was that a different price than they quoted? Did you ask before they did the work how much it was going to be? I'm not nessesarily siding with the dealer but they are there to make money, and I've seen posts where dealers charge more than that.

It is a carb kit made by Yost, similar to the others with a special emulsion tube.

Wow, interestingly enough, those numbers are flipped for hourly labor charges out here in Nebraska - $65. Go figure

I called a few dealers around here, they all quoted $150.00 plus parts (+ or - 15%).

I decided to do the 1,000 myself as well. I started working on a rocker cover leak last night and will just keep going.

My stealer charged me $-0- for my 1,000 mile service. Brought it in for stage one and the 1k service, and uhhh, they forgot to do the 1k service. Oh, and not to mention they put the wrong pipes on my bike. Brilliant!

I am due for my 1000 mile. The Dealer quoted me $230 (Philadelphia PA). A local shop (Lucky Charm Choppers) has a certified HD service dept., cost would be around $180. Plus I can bring my own oil, Amsoil Synthetic. I think I will go there. Plus they have a lot of cool bikes to look at!! :smoke

I am a Harley tech at a dealer in Chicago. I 1K check up is (or should be!) a lot more than a glorified oil change! I have done hundreds of these, and they take some time to do correctly.

I'm letting the dealer do the 1k but I'll be doing the rest. It will cost me $300 but I have a gift card they sent me for $100 off service. They are also going to rejet while it is there.
