View Full Version : Fabricating Xr Type Exhausts? Who? What?

Greeting forum members,

There are a few really nice XR type systems out there namely the Storz and the Supertrap, but they are plus or minus $700.

I was thinking about the possibilities of attempting a fabrication of a high up on one side two into one system. Picture Supertrap XR type header pipes with a two into one union and a their 2 into 1 exhaust muffler. Possibly piecing together stock components from Supertrap to make one.

Has anyone any thoughts on this kind of a project? Has anyone done anything like this?

With regard to a completely custom fabrication, what size pipe and thickness of pipe is used?

Thanks in advance for any ideas, information and recommendations,

Unless you want stainless, one idea for all kinds of nice bends for making an exhaust is a set of 1-3/4" car headers, and just use some stock head pipe ends. I've got a swap meet set I might be using, but even a new set can be had for about $90 or so.

Thanks for the idea of using car headers. I'm going to investigate that further. I recently purchased the Barnett's magazine featuring the "Rat's Hole" show and it was full of really cool hand made exhaust systems on bikes.

Jegs sells J bends for making your own headers.

Not that it would make much difference in header design, but that sure as heck looks to be a Buell XB motor tucked into that frame.

You pass the eye exame. That is Steve DeVoll's flattracker using a custom made frame and 2003 Buell XB9 motor.

You can use the Trapps. Any older system will work. All you have to do is manufacture a rear hanger that mounts off the shock mount like it did on earlier years. Get a rear exhaust rubber mount from a FXR to fit your manufactured bracket and connect your exhaust to it. I have done a couple, works like a champ.
