This Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (Approx 140 mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.

I'd say the only positive thing to come out of that tragedy was the bike rider did not suffer much pain, if any...it sure is sad to see those incidents, but there's a time and place for everything...I used to baffle co-workers because I always drove like an ol' grandpa even in my mid twenties...they'd even laugh at me when I towed my F/Gas race car to the strip every weekend...I'd drive right at the speed limit getting to the strip, then unload the Nova off the trailer and run low 9's all day! I repeat...there's a time and place for everything! A motto that's gotten me to this age!
When I was in the Air Force, they used to say a jet fighter pilot would be going so fast that if he happened to hit a mountain, he would be dead for two seconds before his mind could register that he hit it! Don't know if that was a myth or not, but there might be some truth to it! What a concept if true, though!

I'd like to think one would be knocked unconscious at impact.

There should be displays like this in every crotch rocket store!
I imagine a lot of sportbike riders are still in that age group that feels they are invincible and immortal...sometimes I feel these bikes should be advertised as "population control devices"...

Unfortunately a lot of them put their bikes in gear and leave their brain in neutral :frownthre

I wouldn't call this an "accident". This was a "wreck"...with the difference being that in a "wreck", one or more people responsible for controlling the vehicles involved did something stupid that caused or contributed to the collision.

It aint the speed that kills you, it's the sudden stop...

Speed doesn't kill....it's impacting slower moving objects that kills.
It's not the bullet that kills you......it's the hole. :)

It's not only the sportbike riders. I have seen crappy riders in all camps on a daily basis, you can usually tell the people who are new as they wander all over thier lane when taking off from a light and keep their feet out forever.

Or riding in the middle of the lane.

Middle of the lane is interestingly not really an issue on MOST roads in WNY....I guess the ridiculous amount of salt used cleans the roads of any oil pretty good..
In the MSF, they taught us to use ALL of the road..depending on circumstances....I felt it necessary to add a warning about the "oil strip" that was merely mentioned, only because if the riders got into bad habits here and went elsewhere, they'd find themselves in a world o' hurt real quick in the middle...

The oil strip is not the only reason to avoid the middle of the lane, all cars have a drivers side rear view mirror, left of center lets them see you from that mirror as well.

That's exactly why they taught us to use all of the lane.....and to alternate, to keep from becoming "background noise" so to speak....

Yeah, good point, when I took the course about ten years ago they strongly stressed left of center,s eems they have branched out a bit. I still cringe seeing new riders wander all over the lane or upon leaving the light, your feet should be on the pegs right as your leave and you should have enough control to not wander upon leaving the light. They usually never notice their lack of balance or control until they have to ride in a large group.

Look folks, speed doesn't kill. Stupidity kills. That jackass KILLED himself and the people in that car. Someone said that fortunately he didnt feel any pain. That dumbass should have felt some pain for what he did. What an asshole.
How many moto gp riders are killed on the track at 150-200mph these days? Not many, because they take it to the track!!! That is the only place where it is safe to ride at those speeds! Tracks are designed with rider's safety in mind. People who do that shit on public roads are straight up asking for it. Its a damn shame that innocent people have to pay the price for the arrogance of idiots.

I have not read this whole thread but the comments above pretty much sum up the feeling I have about excessive speeding on public roads. http://www.xlforum.net/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Yup, I fully agree. Let's just hope that A-hole died before having a chance to procreate. The point most of these posts are missing is the jerk-off murdered two innocent people. Yes, he deserved to feel pain, and lot's of it. I'm sure the families of the dead cagers will agree.

Too bad the dude wasted a nice custom bike. That bike was a Honda NT650 HawkGt (Bros in Europe & Japan) with an RC30 body kit, left exit exhaust & Ohlins monoshock.
One of the best street bikes that Honda ever made, IMHO. Only imported from '88-'91, kinda rare over here.
