I have been researching to change my front end to a springer. I scoot around on an 05 1200 custom. I have priced the Paughco springers and I'm looking at $1,870 for the stock (thin) sporty springer front end.

Anyone know of any shops in Southern, CA that have springer front ends for Sportsters 04 +? I know of a few high end places but they are just too rich for my blood.

Sorry, can't help you there. I thought of doing that myself, but I've decided to go low, wide and drag bike style. Post a pic when you get it done.
John from LA

I have not seen any here in So. Cal. I will post pictures when she is done...

HEY NICE CHOICE. ARE YOU PLANNING TO GO STOCK LENGTH, OR ARE YOU STRETCHING THEM OUT? IVE GOT EVERYTHING SET UP TO PUT ON A SET OF PAUGCHOS THIS WINTER. IM GOING STOCK LENGTH WIDE GLIDE WITH THE FRONT SHOCK. $1800 SOUNDS KINDS HIGH THOUGH. I THINK MINE ARE ONLY GOING TO BE $1400 I THINK. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO TO ANY DECENT H-D DEALER AND THEY CAN GET THEM. MOST DEALERS HAVE ACCOUNTS WITH AFTERMARKET PLACES TOO. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR GOING TO DO, ID LAVE TO SEE A PIC WHEN ITS DONE

And I have spoken to a couple of indies and both have said that the springer front end will drastically change the new sportsters handling capabilities. It will look killer but it won't be the same nimble handling sportster.

$1,800 is for a stock Paughco springer front end priced from thier website.

I will let ya know what I find out. I also spoke with the indie (Motorcycle Michael's in Torrance, CA) about going 88 ci and he was more excited about that because he said that the new sporties (04-05) are different beast and can be upgraded. So I'm looking at going 88 ci with a stock appearance...Now you talk about a motherf---er of a bike! An 88ci 1200 Custom?

Are you looking for a regular width springer
or the narrow?

For regular ones go to jirehcycles.com about $1100

for the narrow ones they make two types, the new oval
are more $$$$ but you can still get the older ones.

Here is my 9" over on my 1988 with 45 degree rake.

Look in the chopper section there is a poster that
has a shop that carries Paughco, it's Leo_frantc

I KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING ABOUT THE HANDLING BUT THE STOCK LENGTH SET WONT BE UNRIDEABLE. MOST OF THE PEOPLE I RIDE WITH CANT RIDE NEARLY AS NIMBLY AS I CAN SO IM WILLING TO GIVE UP SO FOR SOMETHING SO BAD ASS. AS FAR AS THE 88" KIT ARE YOU HAVING IT BORED OR BUYING A KIT? IF SO WHAT ONE ARE YOU GOING WITH AND WHAT ELSE ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE DONE TO HELP GET MORE KICK FROM THAT BIG BORE?

Hello gentlemen

I bought a 9" over wide springer on ebay for $800 and had the stock '97 1200 frame modified 38 degrees & 2 up 3 out for $1200 to fit it. Subtract the $750 I got on ebay for the old front end and that leaves a total cost of $1250 for the upgrade.

As for handling I haven't noticed any problems. I'm running without a front brake (that's next) which means being a lot more cautious but it still seems plenty nimble. I'll have a better idea of the handling after Run 21 next week end because getting there will take me thru a very windy Oregon valley.

Other upcoming changes are a LePara Serrento seat, an older style king sporty tank, and a sport bob rear fender. Actually I have quite a few changes in mind but its gonna take a while to pay for it all.

Hey guys, I really dig the springer on the Sportsters, I own a 1995 FXSTS front end, what modifications would I have to make to the neck of a late model Sportster frame to install this springer?

I've got 18" over and it's very rideable, but- it's a chopper with a springer now not the curve eating sport bike it was, it's a fool's game to speed especially into curves with a springer, they kind of twist and feel kind of funny.I ride my bike everywhere daily, on vacations too. There's a pic on my personal page. Your modern one like the paughco will be better than mine, so go ahead if you can slow down and enjoy the ride.

I emailed Flyrite a few months ago asking aobut the springer. The springer off their "Smoking Gun" XL roller can be had for $900, and is 2" under stock. Marty told me that he knows a guy who tried to install one on an 05 XL, and it did not fit correctly...he didn't get into specifics. Anyhow, Regarding my bike, I measured 29-1/4" from the top neck cup to the axle, and Marty said their stock springer will work on it fine. I had my forks lowered .75" with the progressive kit. 29" is the stock length springer, so 27" would be the 2" under from the XL chassis. The stock length springer can be had for $800...but at the time we corresponded, he said they had a sale for stock springers with fender tabs for $450 (website special). I was just "Thinking" so I haven't followed through. I decided that I'd rather spend the $$$ on the 1200 conversin now, and worry about the springer next time...I NEED more power, I don't NEED a springer (I just WANT one)

But, here are some other springer sites:
