I just replaced a ruptured accelerator pump diaphram in my CV carb on my 2001 sporty. Now, I have fuel lines leaking gas right and left. Is it possible to put in the the diaphram backwards? Is there a backwards and forwards to the diaphram? The HD Manual does not show it clear enough. If not, anyone have any ideas why fuel would be back pressuring into the petcock, thus leaking and ruining fuel lines on me..
Any ideas would be great!

I can't think of anything you could have done to the the accel pump that would cause fuel to leak out of the hoses. I'd suspect something else is at fault.

Just tore her all down and cleaned it all out again.... Everything is working.. Did the pressure test to see if the float valve was closing properly and it is. The needle blocks fuel pressure when closed. I am stumped. The petcock vacuum lock is working... no hose on it right now and it's not leaking a bit.. To me it seems as though fuel is being forced back out the hose at the petcock, once the fuel gets on the outside of the hose it de-laminates and falls apart... Maybe I need to clamp it tighter... but I am cranking on them pretty damn tight...

Fuel hose should not fall apart from gas. I'd replace the hose and clamps.
I like the fuel injection hose, it's chemical resistant and really tought stuff.

Funny you should say that, I just bought some. Goodyear Fuel Injector Hose. Has a nice blue liner. I am going to drain the tank, and inspect the petcock for leaks, cracks, etc. I am not taking the dang carb off this thing again... sheesh!!

the blue liner is nitril. The stuff if nearly indestructible. I used all nitril and/or viton hoses on my multi-fuel truck. Even solvent won't effect them.

Did you hook everything back up right?
Fuel shouldn't leak out of a gravity fed system that easily.
Is the petcock damaged?
When you say the fuel is leaking "left and right" what do you mean? Is it leaking from the petcock? or the carb? the bottom of the petcock? or the top?
More details...

Okay, fixed the leak. It was junk in my petcock. Removed the petcock, cleaned it out and re-assembled everything. All good now accept my problem with it starting and idling odd is back.. See THIS THREAD (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=85862) for an explanation. I cleaned out the carb completely after I did all of the above. Now after replacing a torn accelerator diaphragm, cleaning the carb 2 more times, it runs horribly. And yes I put everything back the way I found it, I am very meticulous about that sort of thing. This is the problem I had before I starting into this whole CARB/FUEL adventure.
I thought it was the CHOKE/ENRICHENER that was causing the problem but I cleaned that all out and the problem seemed to go away, until the gas started leaking...After fixing the leak, we are back to square one. These are the sort of things that drive a man postal. :D I am going to take the dang thing apart one more time and check the choke area again...
