I'm sure you've seen these seemingly over priced glasses at the HD dealer. I have for quite some time, but opted instead to go for cheaper HD riding glasses. Well, 3 pair of glasses later, I wasn't completely happy, so I decided to invest the $200 in a pair of the Panoptx. I couldn't be happier. I would have saved money, had I just got the right thing to begin with, because now I've got around $100 in glasses sitting around that I can't use.

Anyway, these glasses have the transitional lenses, which means that in the day time, they are dark, and at night, they turn completely clear. I used to always try to time the sunset, and whether or not I needed to bring along an extra set of glasses. Now, I don't have to worry about it. One pair takes care of any light conditions. They also have the foam that creates a nice tight seal around my eyes. I used to get dry tear marks down my face, and my eyes would be red for an hour or so after each ride. Now, my eyes are completely unbothered by the wind. No tears. No red, swollen eyes. The lenses are also impact resistant to keep rocks and bugs from shattering the lenses.

Hope this helps if you have been on the fence.

I agree. Panoptx are wonderful. I acquired a couple of transitionals at the Myrtle Beach Bike week for $65 each. What a score. I did, however, pay $160 for my first pair at the HD store.

I've been contemplating getting some of those, I've tried some on at the dealership and they are definitely nice. I love the transitional lenses. The price is really tough to get over. I'm planning on going to Biketoberfest down in Daytona and was hoping to score a pair down there....if I can hold out that long!

I have also been considering getting a pair. I want the transition lenses because I hate having to carry two pairs of glasses or planning to be home before dark when I only have my daytime shades. Any places sell these online cheap?? Are there any other options that have transition lenses??

You can get the Panoptx Velocity Fixed and Speed Series glasses with prescription lens.

I've been using transition brand lens (prescription) in my riding glasses for several years now. I use them when riding mountain bikes, road bikes and the scoot. My local eye doc sends my frames (currently made by Smith) to their lab to have the lens made.

I lucked into a pair of Panoptx for 60.00 during AZ Bike Week - it's by far my favorite (over 4 other pairs of glasses I have)!

Hey guys! I'm new to the board, great place you have here. Panoptx are the only way to go. Cheap place to get them is www.sierratradingpost.com. They have a couple of different models in right now for $29.99-$39.99. These are not the transitional lenses, but the price is right. This is a good company. I have ordered from them a few times. No problems with returns.

Are there any decent riding glasses that you can get with prescription lenses? What is your prescription??? If it's in the 2.50 or lower range you can get prescriptions just about anywhere. Your dealer will most likely even have a lab that they work through for any of the frames that they sell (HD, Panoptix, Wiley-X, etc).

If you are between 2.5 and 3.0, you can still get them most anywhere, but may be limited to just a couple brands/styles.

If you are above 3.0, then go to Heavy Glare (Sunray Optical) (http://www.heavyglare.com/). I bought a pair of Wiley-X goggles over the winter. The chick that I talked to at the Wiley-X customer service said that Sunray Optical (Heavy Glare) is the only lab in the country that will make prescriptions in the 5.0 that I need.

It wasn't that terribly expensive either (compared to chrome). I paid about $100 extra for wearing bottle caps, but I got one frame and two sets of interchangable lenses (dark red tint mirrors and yellow night lenses) for about $450.

The folks at Heavy Glare were pretty busy in December-January when I bought mine. It seems like a whole lot of people do what I was doing, spending their left over FLEX medical money on things like prescription glasses. It took about a month for them to arrive.

I have the Panoptx Kona convertibles with transitional lenses. Best 200 bucks I've spent to protect my eyes. I wear contacts and can't even do sunglasses, so the goggle seal makes all the difference. And I didn't want to bother switching lenses at night. Easy to clean and comfortable. Transition is super fast.

Bw9...

I've been looking at the exact same Panoptx model the Kona's with the transitional lens, but been wondering if they get dark enough in the bright sun. I live in Vegas so our sun is very bright and intense most of the time. What's your take on them are they dark enough for you and still good on the eyes?

They seem plenty dark to me. I've been riding up the canyon to the ski resorts, where there is still quite a bit of snow. The sun reflects off the white snow, and can be quite blinding. The Panoptx handle it just fine. Don't get me wrong, they aren't as dark as mirrored type glasses, but the lenses do get quite dark, and they are such good quality optically, that they are a joy to wear.

I picked up a set of the regular daytime Panoptix glasses on Ebay last year. I think I paid 30 bucks for a brand new set with case.

I got a pair of the Panaoptx "Cold Flame" Cyclones off Ebay for $29.00. I can't believe no one else bid on that item but they didn't and I scored an AWESOME buy!

They have blue flames down the side that match my Sunglo blue 1200c perfectly :smoke

No more watery eyes while riding and they keep the dust and debris out of my eyeballs to boot. BUY SOME :clap :clap

Panoptix do a great job keeping the wind out of my eyes, but after about a year they started loosing their ability to transition from light to dark. Now after owning them for 2 years, they don't transition at all. Probably a flaw in the pair I have but frustrating none the less concidering the cost. I still use them for the wind resistance though.

Gee...guess I get to break with the trend here. I own/wear WileyX's and love them as well. They seal out everything...and my nephew in Iraq gets them issued to him for Free. Sooo..good old Uncle got to have a pair too! :smoke They have other models..as well as what they call their "light adjusting" lense. Which are simply transitionals.. http://www.wileyx.com will show ya their product line. To each their own...that's why I ride a Harley! :banana

forgot to mention::: ,got an extra set on eBay for $40.00. Retail is over $100.00. Can't beat that with a stick. :cucumber

I rode all year with a pair of Panoptx transitionals and they are well worth the money. I bought them from their website for $135 in March. I wear contacts, so the foam seals are a life saver. Easy to clean, too.
