I realize this is old. I am in the process of collecting and publishing all Sportster RECALL info

Make : HARLEY DAVIDSON
Model : ALL SPORTSTERS
Year : 2007
Manufacturer : HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 06V476000
Mfr's Report Date : DEC 14, 2006
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 18758

Summary:
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, AS A RESULT OF A GREATER BODY THICKNESS THAN USED IN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS, THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR MAY CONTACT THE FRONT FENDER UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. IN SOME CASES THIS CONTACT MAY ALLOW THE FRONT FENDER TO CATCH ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE REGULATOR BODY WHICH COULD IMPEDE THE OPERATOR'S ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE.

Consequence:
THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH TO THE RIDER.

Remedy:
ON MOTORCYCLES WHICH DO NOT HAVE ACCESSORY ENGINE GUARDS, DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN INTERMEDIATE MOUNTING BRACKET THAT WILL RELOCATE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR TO A POSITION WHICH PROVIDES MORE CLEARANCE FROM THE FRONT FENDER. ON VEHICLES WITH AN ACCESSORY ENGINE GUARDS, DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE THINNNER DIMENSION VOLTAGE REGULATOR TO AVOIDE THE FRONT FENDER CLEARANCE PROBLEM. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 22, 2007. A SECOND CUSTOMER LETTER REFLECTING THE ABOVE REMEDY WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS ON MARCH 16, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.

Notes:

I bought my 2007 Sportster in May 2007. Does that mean that Harley fixed this problem on my bike before the sold it to me? Where can I go to find recall information on my XL 1200 Custom? I'm a new rider & know nothing, any info will help.

I bought my 883R in March 2007 and even with the forks raised 1/2" up through the yokes and full fork compression of 4", plus a 'fenda extenda', the Regulator/rectifier unit does not hit the front mudguard/fender.

I bought my '07 883R about 2 months ago. It did not have the regulator bracket updated. When I brought it in for the first service they updated it.

I took a good hard look at it before the updated it and I have no idea how the fender could hit it. The guys in service said they had never seen it happen and this was at a pretty big dealership.

I think your bike needs the fix. I bought mine in May as well. My dealer did the fix when I went in for 500 mile service.

i just had this recall done last night at the dealer.
they add an additional bracket to lower the regulator down about an inch.
i'd think you'd have to be 300 pounds and doing stoppies for this to be an issue.
