So i have the back wheel off, and have removed the brake rotor and the chain sprocket. The wheel is cosmetically in quite a bad state. Went at the chrome rim with some of that "Chrome-Wad" or whatever it's called, and the spokes with the Dremmel tool and a buffing attachment that looks like wire hair.

I would like a better way to do the spokes. The attachments are expensive and wear down easily. No new spokes in the budget. Any suggestions?

The chrome rims have sections that are rusted thru the chrome. I am not going to re-chrome them [unless i win the lottery]. Someone once suggested that after cleaning them up i paint the rusty sections with clear nail polish to help keep the rust from spreading. Any other suggestions? I am thinking of auto paint clear-coat.

paint won't stick to chrome so any over spray will make a mess down the road , dab some clear nailpolish on the rusty spots and touch it up once in awile

theres a spoke polishing cloth (I can't think of the name right now) that comes in narrow strips that you wrap once around the spoke and tug it back and forth to polish them I know J&P sell it just can't think of the name

Try some "SCOTCH BRITE" 3M product, available Ultra-fine to Coarse.

I am wondering if the automotive clear coat would do the job and hold up better than the nail polish. I would spray it into a small container and apply it with a small brush.

The best thing I have used for buffing up rust spots, or any other stain on chrome is believe it or not, the back side of a piece of carpet. Not the foam back, the jute back kind. Just cut about a 2 inch belt from a carpet sample and run it through the spokes. Shine them up in no time.
