View Full Version : Congrats to Joe Daly
NRHS Sales 22nd October 2007, 17:43 NRHS would like to congratulate Joe Daly for setting a new landspeed record at the most recent event at Maxton. Here is his record:
9216 APS/PG-1000/4 Fairway Motorsports Joe Daly 149.409
Almost 150 mph using a 1000cc engine prepared by NRHS. For those of you unfamiliar with Maxton you only get a 1 mile run-up to get to speed before you are timed. Needless to say you need some power to get going that fast in such a short time.
Way to go Joe!!!
gwcrim 22nd October 2007, 18:08 Great job! I'd like to see him bag all the 1000cc records. It's a personal thing dontcha know.
NRHS Sales 22nd October 2007, 18:54 he now holds the Maxton record and the AMA record!! He found a lot more speed at this event as we were having ignition and gearing problems at the Bubs event. I think we still have a few more mph in it for Bonneville!
snowman 22nd October 2007, 18:59 Excellent job, Joe!!!!:banana:banana:banana
gwcrim 22nd October 2007, 20:09 Have any pics or other info? What bike is it?
NRHS Sales 22nd October 2007, 21:25 Unfortunately it is one of my customers bikes and I do not have any pics.
It is a 1000cc engine using an XB9 bottom end with approx 13:1 compression, stage 3 XB heads prepared by NRHS, Redshift 585 cams, and a S&S super G carb with one thuderjet.
It has a custom chassis Joe had built with his own exhaust design. It runs in the partially streamlined class as it does have a fairing. He is making a new front fairing this winter as his current one can be improved on. I truly believe this bike can go over 155 at Bonneville.

NRHS Sales 22nd October 2007, 21:30 Well there you go! :) It is even prettier from the other side as the exhaust is routed out the tail section
isiahstites 22nd October 2007, 22:20 Congrats to Joe and NRHS!
NRHS is definatley making a name for itself in the LSR world.........I to hope one day my NRHS motor will get me in the record books as well.

Aaron do all of those records still stand?? And what year were they broken in??
Got any info on your customers records??
Scott
aswracing 23rd October 2007, 00:54 Oh yeah, all of those still stand.
Next year the little black bike will go back to "M" where it belongs, and attempt to raise it's BNI 1350cc M-PF record of 166.9, which we set on gasoline. I installed and tested a nitrous system on it, made 171hp on the dyno, but before I could race it, they bumped it to "A" with a rule change that disallowed S&S cases in "M". That's the only reason the bike was in "A" at the BNI meets. But I'll do a stock case 82ci motor like yours for it. It'll still make 170hp. We'll also go for the AMA 1350 M-PF record with it.
The orange bike will stay in it's current classes, MPS-PF in AMA and APS-PF in BNI (again, it's got S&S cases). I move it between 1650cc and 2000cc classes by fitting overbored cyls. In 2000cc we typically only have 1660 to 1670cc's, depending on the top end that's on it. I'd like to put up some records north of 215 and make some passes north of 220.
I may put it back on gasoline at some point. The records there are pretty soft. It has the MPS-PG 1650 AMA record already at 187 and change (oops! forgot to list that one. Make that 10 records). But it'll do 190's on gas. Plus it can take the 2000cc gas records too.
Once both bikes have achieved all their goals, I'll probably swap motors around, which will open up a bunch more possibilities. That'll keep me busy for the next 10 years ;)

Thanks Dan and group
NRHS Sales 23rd October 2007, 22:39 Joes brother is already planning on running a production 1000cc next year which we will prep the motor for.
55chevr 24th October 2007, 06:04 I made 4 runs at Maxton over the weekend. 144, 143, 148, 149. All were faster then the old record of 138. On the 149 mph record run the bike went on the rev limiter with about another 1/8 to go ... I considered gearing up another tooth and adding the next size jet but decided against it as it was a little late in the day and we had an 11 hour tow back to NY. My brother Tom was able to squeeze 127 mph out of his XB9 which is stone stock with 2400 miles on the odometer.
I owe a debt of gratitude to Dan and Aaron of NRHS and Doug from ARC Fabrications. I started the project a little over a year ago and they steered me the right way from the beginning.

isiahstites 25th October 2007, 01:08 55chevr,
I have to ask............how does that Sporty tank allow you to get your head down out of the wind?? Having not seen your bike in person I am curious if a fuel cell with a shorter fairing would allow you to go faster.
Anyways the bike looks great, I really dig the exhaust and congrats again on a job well done.
Scott
55chevr 25th October 2007, 05:02 The sportster tank had to be raised up higher then originally fabricated when I changed over to a Pingel Guzler fuel valve. I used the tank because I needed to section the rear half into a 2 quart oil tank and I had it onhand. I fab'd a new aluminum low tank the will allow me to get much lower over the bike but I declined to make any changes for the ECTA meet. The new tank and some additional streamlining should add a couple of mph's to the record next spring.

I had the same dam problem with my guzzler valve on my Buell based bike.

55chevr 26th May 2008, 02:57 I was able to squeeze 149.847 at Maxton in early May. I had a ways to go with R-s and it was still pulling. Slight oil leak from rear rocker box made me load up on Saturday and leave early. There is some more in it as it sits, justs needs R & D. Maybe Dan (NRHS) can find it when I get it to the shop on Colorado. The new tank and fairing are working out but it needs some carbureator work to realize the potential.
Joe
isiahstites 26th May 2008, 03:08 Congrats on your 149 run! I had the same two problems last meet......leaky rear rocker box and ran out of track while the bike was still pulling.
Keep running her, you will get her all figured out!
Scott
BTW it was nice chatting with you on the phone when you were at the April meet.

Photo from 149.8 mph run ... I can get a lot lower with the fabricated aluminum gas / oil tank. the new fairing uses an Air Tech KR750 nose and windshield and I build extended sides and extended the lowers to make a belly pan.
55chevr 2nd June 2008, 16:42 Let me try this again
55chevr 2nd June 2008, 16:48 I am informed by the site that I cannot attach photos from photo bucket until I have 15 posts ... not sure why this is important but I can live with it.

I took this photo of a '52 KR750 flat tracter that raced at Maxton in May ... I believe that there were 17 made.
