View Full Version : Opinion after sitting on a "Rocker"

Finally got to see the new Rocker model at Biketoberfest in Daytona. I've been curious since seeing pictures of it. Not sure why they haven't shown up at the $tealers yet. Anyway, I was disappointed. The whole seat set up just sucks. There's a big gap between the rear fender and the seat. Looks like crap. Sitting on it felt good as far as riding position. They were not allowing demo rides. I did not care for the look of the unchromed model, but did like its seat a little better. The other one looks better, but that whole flip out passenger seat dealy would have to go. I guess this is HD's attempt to capture some of the chopper crowd. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Anybody else actually seen one? Or better yet, ridden one?

I've read a few reviews and it appears to handle real well.

The seat setup, I don't get it. IMO they did a bad job trying to offer a production chopper. Changing out the rear fender for a frame mounted one would fix it. A trip through the XLF photo gallery shows much better looking choppers.

Surdyke Harley Davidson doesn't have either "Rocker" model on the floor yet here either. From what I've seen in pics, I agree....the looks of the seat sucks!

My dealer told me that they will not hit showrooms until January, now.

H-D false started twice on them. A few made it out in early October, but those are few and far between.

Now, they are saying that H-D is going to "bank" production until January and then ship them all so that they hit showrooms a the same time. Expect some "hoopla". They have annoyed the dealer network over these bikes as many dealers are reporting a slowdown in sales based on people wanting to at least see a Rocker before they buy something else. He said this isn't the only reason for a slowdown, but it has delayed a few of his customers.

My dealer said he wished they would have handled it like the Nightster. Don't say a word until they are on the way, then the buzz they generate leads to immediate sales. Maybe not on the Rocker itself, but chances are people coming in to see it will buy something.

I can't wait to see it.

I don't like the looks of the "shake & bake" chopper seat thingie..... Heard there were quality issues with some of the new parts so they did an internal recall-hold....:geek:geek:geek

For the money they want for these, I'd take a stock sporty and build a really nice ride myself with the $$$ left over....:banana:banana:banana

I think they should offer them in green and yellow and rename them the Tractor. That seat (which is very OCC-like) looks like something off a John Deere. A variation of the standard Softtail fender setup would look much better.

I just got an e-mail from my dealer stating the same thing. Curiously, they also seem to have more new bikes than usual in the showroom, including two Nighsters, and 5 105th anniversary bikes, including two Sportys. Usually those move out fast, even at this time of year. A lot of my friends who might otherwise have bought bikes are holding out so they can see what a Rocker looks like up close in personal, although I personally don't think it's worth the wait.

You obviously haven't been reading the trade news. OCC was building a John Deere bike and came up with that ugly ass seat first. Now, they're suing the motor company for patent infringement.:laugh :banana :banadanc :banadanc :banana

When I first saw a pic of the Rocker I got the impression HD was trying to further capture the look of the old hard tail bikes. The seats on those sat up off the frame and fender because they were sprung.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the "parent material" bearings they have on the cam support plates for 08. I have talked to some very irate BT owners who bought 08s and had no idea that Harley did away with the cam ball/roller bearing arangement. I just got a mailer from H-D with all their latest goodies for Christmas and I noticed you can get a "Screaming Eagle" Cam plate with brass bushings in it for your 08. Billet cut of course for $329 and change. Hmmmm, interesting that they would come up with that particular part as a Screamin' Eagle upgrade. So... I wonder if they are retrofitting the Rockers with cam plates that actually have bearings?

As an afterthought, I was looking at the price and you can get a Road King for what they want for a Rocker. If I'm going to pay 20K for a motorcycle, at least I want one that I can actaully ride somewhere besides work and back.

If that were the case, why wouldn't they do that across the board?

I think they heard the outcry of "that's an ugly ass POS" and took it back to the
drawing board for some adjustments.

Yeah, you'd think so, but I don't think enough hell has been raised about it yet to cause a general recall. But it would not surprise me if it happened. I guess the jury is still out on these cam plates. They may end up not being a problem. The Japanese have had parent material bearings for years in cars. I think this was an effort by H-D to cut production costs. I have a feeling the metrics are really starting to eat their lunch with the heavy cruisers. Plus concessions made to the Unions with the last strike at H-D probably didn't help things either.

If that's H-D's attempt at a chopper, well it's PRETTY LAME!! :doh:doh:doh

IMHO it has an identity crisis that H-D failed miserbly at, :laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh

Seems like some of you guys might be missing the point of the Rocker. The design is a way for the bikes fender to hug the rear tire like a hardtail custom, yet still have a rear suspension.......hence the seat design.

As a twinkie rider, I couldn't pass the chance to see what this one visioned board had to say about the rocker,
I don't particlary care about the seat config, But looking beyond that I see a "different" factory platform to build offa.. That is something I like.. can't wait to see what the world builds outta them.
C'mon guys more to life than just the "missonary position"...

true be told....

I like the bikes oil tank and coil but that whole rear section from the trannie back suck dog dingos

they did a lowsy job of designing the "hugger" fender and that seat is nothing but an abomination to the whole world of harley

I don't think even the asses on OCC would of built a rear like that

I got to sit on one here in Seattle and I have to say the none chrome model feels better. The "C" seat because of the passenger seat sits too high. Other than that, they look cool to me. I love the rear tire. Alas, I won't buy one as they just aren't practical.

I wish I could afford one, I think it's gorgeous. The seat on the lower model looks great, the 2 piece looks shite however.

I like it except for the seat, wouldn't pay $20k for one. We will be seeing them on e-bay a year from now for $15k with low miles. If I were to buy a BT this wouldn't be my first choice.

I like it when the moco comes out with new models (fat bob, street bob, softail custom, street glide), but that rocker is just ugly.

I like a little more function in my bike. I do realize that most potential owners of the rocker will be primarily using it for bar-hopping, poker runs, and garage decoration. I guess it would be fine for that purpose (as long as you ol's ass ain't too big)

Personally, I wan't a bike that I can throw a tour pack and some saddle bags on and take off for a week or two (or at least go to the store and pick up 25 bucks worth of groceries).
