Said if I made it home from Vietnam I was buying me a harley.Had even wrote to harley about ordering one but was informed had to deal with a dealer.Anyway in 1973or1974 me and a buddy ordered one he a XLCH me a XL,anyway during the wait he bought him a 750 honda.Anyway his came in first and since he wasn't gonna get it I asked Hell Harley in Chgo,Il. to let me have it.They said no it had to go to the next one on the list.I told them either sell it to me and let it be a one owner bike are I was giving my buddy the money he'd buy it then transfer it to me so they sold it to me.
Now as I'm older I sometimes wish I had waited for the electric start. Then I think of how many times the kicker saved my drunk a**.Now for some reason I just wonder if the XL would've lasted as long as the CH.It'a a AMF had a problem with it jumping back down into 1st gear from 2sd when I first got it so blueprinted trans and installed a barnett clutch the 1st year I had it that fixed that problem.Basically other than afew carb rebluids that's all that ever been done to motor.
I know this maybe more than Y'all wanted to know here but I know AMF caught a bad rap back in the day but I'll have to say mine must have been built during the middle of the week. Also notice it came from Hell Harley the last 3#'s on my driver license is 666 the last 3#'s on my Vietnam Veterans Of America members card is 666 and my unit patch in the Nam looked like a pitch fork the 4th Trans Batt
