A Weekend Away... some good / some bad
Friday became an RDO and we jumped on the bikes and headed 400kms south to Valla Beach in NSW for a weekend with the Ratbags.
Friday morning was gorgeous: endless blue skies, a light south-easterly and about 26 degrees. Perfect riding weather. Friday arvo and evening was about kicking back with a beer or three, a pig on the spit and some socialising. Being with friends and making new friends seemed to be the theme of the night.
Saturday morning was a walk along the deserted beach then a short ride to the Star Hotel at Nambucca Heads with gorgeous views over the water.

Couldn't help myself, had to snap a pic...

Then out to the Pub With No Beer for lunch. They do have beer now... even their own brewery out back!

But my visit to the iconic pub will always be coloured in my memory by the incident on our way back. A rider collided with a horse that was loose on the road. The horse's leg was completely shattered, the bike's wheel was bent and header pipe ripped off; but fortunately the rider walked away from the accident. It was a cautionary reminder of the dangers of our favoured country road riding. The image of that poor horse will be stuck in my head for some time... his eyes echoed pain and defeat as he stood so quietly.
Sunday was the ride home... and just to remind us that the fun was over, the weather turned miserable for a very wet ride for the first three hours. This photo was at Coffs harbour looking south from where we had come; north, where we were headed, was just as black but with no vibrant rainbows to cheer us. But despite the wet ride home, and the memory of the horse, it was a fabulous weekend with friends doing what I enjoy.

Hi Em, unfortunately there would be no mending his leg; he would need to be put down.
