Motor Factory Tappets
Anybody running Motor Factory brand tappets in their Ironhead? They say they are made in the USA. I read were Sifton Tappets are made in Tawian and I don't want any of that crap. I know Jims is top of the line and I am considering them but Motor factory cost a good bit less and with Jims I don't know if you can use stock tappet blocks.

Why don't you pick up a set of OEM used tappets off of ebay. The original tappets are very good quality most of the people on this forum have had them in their IH for many years with no problems. Just because they're used doesn't mean that they're not good. But if you feel compelled to buy new the Jims will fit in OEM tappet guides. I don't know much about Motor Factory tappets but they are VTwins house brand and maybe they are just assembled in the USA from foreign made parts.

Jim's, you're paying an awful lot for just the "name". Their high dollar big-axle tappets are "inferior" IMO. The roller/axle assembly is not rebuildable/replaceable (like every other brand is), even by Jim's. Their service life is about 1/5th that of OEM or other aftermarket brands in my experience, and their "warranty"/"customer service" is laughable.

New guy question, what exactly IS a tappet and why would a person want to run a set of "performance" units? I see them in the '11 Harley catalog, and they're not all that much money, as these things go, but what's the difference between a good tappet and a bad tappet?
I realize this may be a whole 'nother thread, but since this one is already on the subject, and there are probably others like me, who wonder just what the hell a tappet IS, I figured it'd fit....can a person run EVO tappets in an IH?

These are soild lifters and already use rollers. Not much ponies to bleed out of the tappets for a stock or slightly modified motor. you can buy the pin/rollers and rebuild yours but as someone said, these components are pretty rock solid.

Don't waste your money on Motor factory parts. JIMS is the best you can buy for any harley engine. Better than AMF. Stick with the best f__k the rest.

What Kills Tappets is a Very Squarish Cam Ramp Profile, but for High perf you install what you need to win, for a street bike OEM is fine, if looking at used make sure the side of the tappet is not badly Galled
'deep grooved lines' along the tappet

Fine grooving in tappets is not a problem. Some hand polishing with crocus cloth will smooth things out.
