Default First post, Got a couple questions. Any help would be great! (95 switches on a 75)

Hey guys, first post on here, iv been browsing around a decent bit before hand though. I bought my first Harley 2 days ago..picked up a 75 ironhead. All stock, mustang double seat, sissy bar, ram horn bars. My questions: I want to swap the stock bars for either drags or 14" narrow apes, but iv got some issues with the turn/horn/fire buttons on the factory controls...Rather than look around for new switches and keep the crusty stock stuff, is there anyway i can use factory 95/up controls and just cut the connectors off and splice them into my factory harness? i know the newer style has a double line for throttle? and mine has a single, if thats an issue? Also, iv gotta tighten my chain up; and i heard that a 1/2" play is optimum. Any help would be great guys! Lovin the site so far!

i have never done it but if you use the dimpled bars and check the wires i can't see any reason it wouldn't work. you would probably have to use a late model throttle cable

You will find a lot of help on this forum. Sometime the gurus are away riding and they can respond later (imagine you post a question and all the person interrested are at Sturgis for a week) For what i know about changing bar, switch and other things I can assure you everything is possible. It depend on your hability to do your own thing. The first good advice is to get a manual for your bike. The second, get a part catalog like the one from JP cycle and do the number/year matching. I even saw a IH modify to race against seadoo.

Nevermind false alarm, I found a bang up deal on some factory switches/48" wire harness, which kills two birds with one stone.. I'll have plenty of wire to make new bars work, either a set of the breezers or 14" Burlys or Nash midgets
