Default here's painted chrome

There's a post here where a member wanted to know how to paint chrome. The mirrors and headlight trim ring were both chrome. I painted them along with a few other parts not shown. All That was done is to wipe the chrome with acetone. No sanding or scuffing was done. An adhesive promoter such as Bulldog is sprayed on the bare chrome. I used Krylon Fusion in gloss black. It is an enamel formulated for non porous surfaces. I wet sanded the parts with 2000 grit then buffed with 3M rubbing compound. Then you apply a coat of wax. These were done a few months ago and are holding up suprisngly well. A fellow member here says the low profile fuel cap that I did looks like black chrome. If you like black, give it a try.

Nice job on the paint. Looks good.

That Bulldog Adhesion Promoter is probably the key to the whole process. That stuff is recommended for when you want to paint chrome.

I'll have to remember this when I repaint my S&S air cleaner. I just did a light scuffing of the chrome and put some gloss black paint on it. As of right now it looks good, but if it starts to flake or anything I'll go that route. Thanks for the info and pics.

Bulldog Adhesive Promoter comes in an areasol can just like spray paint. The label claims you can paint chrome, most metals, plastic, and even glass. It can be used as a tie coat when there are multiple layers of old paint. It's basicaly glue that sprays on like a coat of clear paint. It's about $6.00 a can at pep boys. There are other retailers that carry it, like the behemoth I won't mention. Thanks for the kudos on my sportster.
