08 1200 question
I have an 08 XL1200L and heres my possible problem. When I come to a stop after riding any kind of distance at highway speeds, the idle stays pretty high for 2-3 minutes before it drops back down to a normal idle. So my question is-is this normal or do I need to take it in (its under warranty)?

Mine usually idles down within a few seconds, you might want to have the dealer take a look at that. Did it just start doing this or has it done it since you got it?

I have an 07 1200 custom and mine does the same thing....it may be the way the EFI runs in these newer sporty's, but if it keeps it up and your warranty is still in effect, i would take it in.

If the weather is really hot and the engine, mine will do it at start up.

I've noticed the same problem on my '07 1200C. It didn't always do this, but lately the idle speed has been high on start-up. After the engine warms, the idle speed is normal when the bike is fully stopped. Curiously, when slowing for a stop, when I squeeze in the clutch handle the engine idle speed is higher than it should be, and as soon as the bike comes to a complete stop, the idle speed drops back to normal after a second or two.
Anyone have any ideas what causes this phenomenon?

Yep yep, after a long ride, mine does it too, although mine will do it for about 5 to 10 seconds - NOT 2 to 3 minutes! Yikes!
When it started doing this, I took it in to a dealership since it was still under warranty and they couldn't find anything wrong, so like many have already stated, I just live with it.

It's not so much that you are just living with it or that the dealer couldn't find anything wrong with. It is the way it is designed to operate, higher idle speed while in motion than at rest, smoother operation while in motion idling. You'd be chuggin' along getting whiplash if it at would idle down to the 0 vehicle speed idle while you are still moving. It keeps the idle at a higher setting until you've stopped for a few seconds, when the bike is stopped it doesn't need to carry the extra idle speed.
