Some belt guard help, please
I'm going to remove the upper and lower belt guards. It looks like I'll have to loosen or remove the lower rear shock bolt to get the nut for the guard off.
Is this correct?
If so, how hard is it to loosen the bolt? I'm low on tools right now and don't want to open a new can of worms.

Not hard and yes you will have to take it off, unless you want to cut it off.

Do you mean cutting right at the tab and grinding down the end to hide it?
Thanks

Don't cut it!!! Just take the nut off the back of the bolt. I almost think you don't even have to pull the bolt, can't remember for sure. I took my belt guard off without the use of a lift.

Though it's not hard, I'm sure the lower shock bolt has to come out. Just remove the nut and the bolt should slide fairly easily...though it may require a bit of convincing.
Here's a pic of the Belt Guard . You can see that the bolt goes through the rear mounting tab.

When I said "come out", I meant it has to come out enough so the lower part of the shock is loose from the swingarm. You can leave the bolt in the lower shock eye...

I just did mine. All you have to do is remove the nut in the back. You don't have ot remove the bolt at all - very easy. The lower guard on hte other hand...Three bolts (7/16 I think) the two closest to th rear are easily accessible with a socket and an extention the bolt closest to the front is in a tight space so you'll need an open end wrench (offset would be better but if you don't have on a standard will do but take longer). You don't have to remove the bolts, just lossen them and the lower guard will slide off it have "key hole" openeings. You will have ot remove bolts to put the new one one but it's easier to get that front one without the guard on.
