Old John Barleycorn did more for me than Billy Graham could do. He finally brought me to my knees and made me look up and cry out for divine help. He opened my mind and introduced me to AA for a second time. Those folks got a lot smarter after I got knocked to my knees this time. Now I have had the privilege to be one of those folks for more years than I spent drinking.
By the way, regarding the "cult" comments, they may be accurate. Being a student and teacher of religion, AA does qualify as a cult. It has non-traditional founders - two alcoholics. It has a non-biblical book of doctrine - The Big Book. It has initiation and membership rites - "a desire to stop drinking" and picking up a white chip. But, unlike some harmful cults who drink poison Kool Aid to kill themselves when they get in trouble, AA requires you stop drinking the poison Kool Aid if you don't want to kill yourself and want to stay out of trouble.
AA is just the cult I need to keep from killing myself with poison Kanadian Kool Aid and stay out of trouble...one day at a time. It is better for me to be part of a cult of the sober than dying a lonely drunk!

I accepted Christ through a Billy Graham service 1967 ~ into AA 1990, I can relate!!!
Thank You Dr.Bob & Bill W, I have regained use of my 65XLCH and lived my lifelong dream, attending Sturgis Rally...

As many folk as the Reverend Graham has touched, I suspect a lot more got straightened out via an overdose of debauchery.
