Default Reprogram the stock speedo's 6th gear indicator?

While running a CEL diagnostic a week or so ago I noticed for the first time that my Iron's stock speedo has a "6" indicator light which undoubtedly is there for those with a 6-speed transmission to indicate when they're in the top gear.

My question is whether or not it would be possible to reprogram this to light up when in 5th gear instead. Or better yet...

Since I'm expecting a few "you should not need an indicator" or "listen to your bike blah blah blah" responses I have to say that it would be downright bad ass if it could be further modified to light up "666" when in the top gear. Like activating the bike's evil mode which would only make sense to happen when going fast anyway. Just an idea but if it were possible I would definitely do this for the cool-factor alone (with the added benefit of a you're-in-5th-gear-dummy reminder.)

Anyone have an idea how I could accomplish this?

Why would there be a "6" indicator when sporties have NEVER had six gears.

That makes no sense whatsoever, even for HD.

May make no sense....but it is there. They even mention it in the sporty FSM. Possibly a shared speedo with the Dyna's??

You are correct Cosmo the later irons and dynas do indeed share speedos. My brother in law bought a new speedo and housing from the local stealer for his dyna and the parts numbers cross referenced between the 2.

Its there, I made a comment about a year ago that I was going to wire my low fuel light to it since the light comes on every time I get on the highway.....might as well stare at a six instead of a fuel light since it comes on even with a full tank.

You would need a switch in the gear-box that´s activated when engaging 5th for a starter, or maybe there is a function in the instrument that can calculate it from engine speed versus road speed? How´s it done on the Dynas I wonder?

The latter is more what I would expect it to be (either based on speed or RPMs.) Not sure where this reprogramming would lie though; in the ECU or speedo itself? It looks as though some Dyna riders have had issues with the light not coming on or staying on so obviously the specific issue can be adjusted somehow. Perhaps I'll ask one of the techs at Harley today on the off chance they may have a clue. Seriously want to find a solution to making this happen though since a lot of you might go for the same mod if it were relatively easy to do.

My PowerVision shows gear position, so there is something that tells it what gear its in.....I think its based on speed and RPM...but I really don't know....whatever it is, its accurate as my PV always shows the correct gear
