Default 1200 xlh 1200 sporty (cam gear alignment)

Hi all havin troublewith marks on camgears i am struggling with the pinion gear, being in right position to mount all the gears is hard to install to line up all cam gear marks but worse i cannot seem to get pinion gear lined up ,if i follow diagram in manual valve timing wrong?? does the keyway slot on pinion gear face down or how do set gears to right valve timing pleeze?HEEELLLLP
