cv carb missing part question
hey guys, getting ready to wrap my ironhead boardtracker project up and started cleaning the cv carb prepping for install (don't know what year the carb is off of, it was on the bike when i got it). i don't know if i lost a part or it didn't come with it to be honest but today i noticed that part # 38 in the diagram below is missing. i remember the bike idled and accelerated fine before i broke it down. can i buy this piece somewhere? or do i have to make something like a washer to hold the needle down? not sure what to do. thanks, Lou

It looks to me the purpose of part # 38 is to keep the spring centered and possibly to keep the needle seated against the slide. Both are important.

It's a plastic part, holds the needle down in the plunger and centers the spring. had one in my hands a couple weeks ago.

It is the following part number available from HD, and yes you certainly do need one.

+1 It's a fluke that the carb worked without it.

If they don't have one, or it's "obsolete", let me know. I've got a few laying around.
