Using the bent piece of rod method I found that the wheel is aligned... The belt tension is fine. Spent a bit of time changing the brake light switch which had recently gone bad.

Not sure what to check next, took it out and gave it some good rear brake at 30 mph-ish and still got a rub...

Check that one of your axle adjusters isn't broken, been a few of those here on the forum. I make it a point to glance at my swingarm at least once during each ride to make sure the adjuster nuts are still sticking out the back and seated against the end of each arm.

Swingarm pivot bolts and axle bolt are tight as hell, didnt undo them but they're tight enough to where they wont turn. Didnt want to break them after the alignment check passed.

Hmmm, interesting. Austin, what does the gap at the pivot look like on the left side? If it is not equal to the gap on the right I think your pivot shaft needs to be pulled and checked. If the rear axle is tight and alignment is good, then things must be phuqed up at the pivot end. That's the only other way that there could be movement that would allow the rear pulley to rub, I think.

But even that doesn't make sense. Are you sure the pulley rubs? Are you sure it rubs against the belt guard? If the rear axle is tight and properly aligned I don't see any way the pulley could rub, unless the belt guard is bent.

Tom - there is more gap on the right side of the pivot, I am going from memory here since I am at work but I would say at least an inch more? The pulley has definitely rubbed - it did it again when I intentionally locked the rear wheel for a second to test... The belt guard being bent is something I considered, last night I gave it a good yank in the right direction but havent road tested for rubbing yet.

I guess I could just not lock the rear wheel but I want to make sure that nothing is wrong so when I do need to stop abruptly I can.

See if you can use a pry bar very carefully and try to move the wheel left to right to get the pulley to contact the guard... Honest its just not the swing arm bearings or the motor mount.... Either the guard is moving or the wheel hub is moving... something else...if the belt is too loose you could be grabbing the leading edge of the pulley guard and the belt could be pulling the guard into the pulley... I cut the front pulley guard section of my guard off because when my chain slacked out on top the chain was grabbing the guard...look at the pulley guard section coming down from the guard that covers the front of the pulley...if the paint is scuffed or worn off the top edge you may have found your issue

Austin, here's what mine look like. The flat on the pivot bolts lies flush with the outer surface of the swingarm pivot:

Yours may be out a few turns on the right. I have a wild idea that your pivot tube mounting flange bolts have sheared and the pivot tube has unscrewed itself from the pivot bolt on the right. That's fecking crazy!

Whatever it is the pivot bolt is tight. Gotta get an inch and 1/8" socket for it, gonna try to tear it down this weekend if I ever get some time.
