Default Got a question

i need to replace my 81 ironhead right side cover and i have a 76 ironhead engine both 1000cc ive been told they changed somewhere around 76-78 so will this 76 right side fit my 81 or do i need to look for a later model?

That's the cam cover its not gonna be as simple as pulling one cover off and installing new one.

There are both simple fitment and serious fitment questions ...

Simple: The 81 has an electronic tach so there is no accomodation for the tach drive gear. The 81 has the 11:00 o'clock fitting and the internal foofoo which the 76 does not have.

Serious: The bushings may need to be line bored which would require dismantling the entire engine. There are various opinions on this.

The early cover may be missing a mounting screw hole in the upper rear corner.

And don't forget there are several different gaskets, the wrong one and you will starve the top end of oil, be careful!
