Default Quick VOES/timing question

pretty stock 883 - pipes and air filter are aftermarket

I'm trouble shooing 3/4 throttle issue and trying to verify the VOES is working properly and came across something i didn't expect:

bike is idling (a little slow), i then pulled the vacuum hose from the back of the carb (CV) and the idle immediately increased significantly, which wasn't what i expected.... i expected it to idle slower, am i wrong?

thoughts - voes issue or timing?

That's exactly what you were creating when you removed the hose. But, by putting if back on the fitting you will hear the change in RPMs that you are looking for to verify proper VOES operation.

If yopu look in the FSM they also go through the process of testing the VOES with a vacume pump. This is really a better test. as you can see how much vacume is required to open and close the switch.

vacuum test is the best way to find switch point and on a stocker, probably around 10 -12 inches. another simple test is to install a 12v bulb and socket between the voes ground wire and ground, other words, current must pass through the voes and then the bulb before ground. light on, voes activated and visa-versa.
