I presume you mean when adjustring the pilot screw,

Engine must be at full operating temperature, like after a ride, before testing the pilot screw setting.

When properly set it should respond noticeably to 1/4 or 1/2 turns.

If no response the pilot screw passage or assembly may be in need of cleaning; this is covered in the Carb Cleaning Sticky.

Otherwise the slow jet is incorrect size. What carb is it? what is size of slow jet?

You need to get hold of a workshop manual so you can see how to pull the carb apart and check jets, and how to replace intake manifold seals.

Alright carb problem has been fixed. It was an electrical problem shorted out wire. By front sprocket.
ThAnks for everyones help. Now I have another question will a four speed out of 81 fit an 82 ironhead ? Also how many needle bearings are the shaft of the tranny. What's the best way to install it. Thanks guys.

Yes use the trap door from the 82 and the best parts from both transmissions , the reason for using the trap door from the 82 is the door from the 81 will need to be lined bored to insure proper fit to the race in the right side of the case. Nikki
