I did find the miki 38 on amazon for less than 100 with shipping included. So I charged my battery all night last night. I have a 1 amp 6/12 volt good charger. I am thinking it might really help to have a full charge to fire better. I do want to convert back to a magneto to eliminate a bunch of wiring.

Not really sure how much wiring you will save by going back to a magneto, as my generator only has 2 wires from it to the regulator. The regulator is right by my battery, so that wiring is barely noticable. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I am running a carb that is known for being junk, or hard to tune, will come back to that in a bit. I am running a Keihin BD, screamin eagle carb. Was a bit of a bear to tune. It has a low and high range jet system with an intermediate air bleed, along with an accelerator pump. Now, since this carb has long since been obsolete, you cannot get any parts for it, except for some jets. The one thing you cannot get is the intermediate bleed, but you can cut down the low range jets, or you can drill the jets yourself, i go for option 2. The intermediate bleed is just an adjustment point for wherethe carb shifts from running off of the low range jet, to the high range jet, and I believe that is where this carb got its bad reputation from. So after many adjustments of timing and switching out of jets and test runs where I kept track of ambient temperature, approximate humidity, I also recorded how the bike ran, and if there were any issues along with what rpms they occured.
After a little dedication I now have a POS carb that will start on the first kick (2 primes no ignition) when cold, and 1 kick when it is warm. It also makes the motor run extremely well on the top end. I have an S&S B to start playing with next, but cannot come up with a reason to mess with a good thing at this point. Not sure how much more power I would gain anyways.
No matter which carb, or combination of any kind of what nots that you buy, you are going to have to spend some time and effort to get everything tuned properly, and then figure out how the motor likes to start, no way around this.

That does help ease my mind a little. i hate to buy a new carb and that not be the issue. i am trying my butt of to get this bike to start and run. i am sck of walking all over or taking a bus or cab. its lame and im tired of not riding my chopper. im going to mess with it more tday so i might be able to go out and ride on my bday Wednesday. who knows, it might be my main problem or just a small issue among something worse. o well, staying home saves me money i guess

Beautiful machine you have there!
I sure wish I had a 1962 with a mag, that will start on 1 or 2 kicks.
Nice job you did on the seat too.
How do you like the seat?
Isn't it just about the most comfortable seat you ever sat on?
