Guide difficulty
Im ready to set this bitch on fire, as much as I like riding I'm about to say to hell with hd. It keeps doing the one cylinder bullshit, fixed up the intakes, fixed up my lopsided lobe, looked at pushrods and my front intake has side to side play, worn tappet as I've had and replaced on the rear. The front guides lip catches on the cylinder base so I'm contemplating taking a dremel to it and giving it the space needed. Before I go cutting it up is there another way? I don't know why it did this one cyl bs out of nowhere, it'll run on two for while then goto one and back again. It's just god damn frustrating and I'm about to sell the piece of shit to the lowest bidder or shoot it. It'd be more gratifying to the latter.

I feel ya there I have had fits from mine as well but I just keep remembering its old and has over 100k on it. Then I go into rebuild mode and decide to go to fix it mode less money.
ok with that said I have had mine do the dropping cylinders thing and took a while to figure mine out. so here is a few of the things I have ran into. One time it was a bad valve guide, machine shop screwed me. Another time it was a sticky lifter block, easy fix. and now I have another issue. A bad valve spring. it seems that when I do my tappet adjustment I have to leave the front cylinder loose or it drops out and comes back. found it was a weak spring. but the good news is I am doing the top end soon so I will put in new springs as well as do the entire head including some port work. That paired up with a fresh bore and new 10.5 pistons I figure I will be good for another 50k at least, well maybe. I have never done the bottom end only put new gaskets on the covers. and ya know it has always leaked oil too gotta love an old Harley marking it territory like a dog with mailboxes.
don't get too flustered and just remember if it was easy everyone would do it.

Take the dremmel to it. This is commonly done. Another forum member posted about this just a week or so ago.

If I had the money to just dump into this dumb thing, I would, but unfortunately, I'm not a Romney, so I gotta struggle. That's life.
If anyone would like to buy into my 50,000 dollar dinner conference, the more the marrier. I'll be cooking hot dogs.
