So like I said in the other thread - it only took me 4 more years to wear down the stock Dungflop to the point where I was ready to do this. Ordered a 110/90-19 ME880 to go with my downsized 140/90 rear!

Will report back on fit and whether or not I have to tweak the fender struts.

Well at least you did it LOL..

What's really funny, is that I'm back to the 100... (Pirelli doesn't make a 110)

LOL - that is kinda funny.

I should be picking it up in a couple of hours, hopefully I'll have time to remount the wheel once the kids are in bed.

Later,

K

UPDATE -

HUZAHHH!

Metzeler ME880 110/90-19 installed. Easy (just had to unbolt fender and then reinstall after the wheel/tire was in place).

Took it for a 100 miles of twisties for scrub in yesterday morning.

Cosmetically looks great, but more importantly it FUNCTIONS GREAT.

Granted, it increases lever effort slightly at the bars and slows turn in just slightly, BUT the profile makes for a more even turn in (slightly slower but steadier through the transition) there's less of a sudden breakover. Once hauled over in a turn it holds the line more firmly and is less upset but road irregularities. Same obviously goes for straight aways. Under braking it feels grippy and firm.

I like it better than the 100/90-19 Dungflop it replaced in every way.

By halfway through scrub in I was tossing this bike around pretty much as well as I ever tossed my Guzzi Jackal (which was a similar weight, wheelbase etc - and ironically originally had essentially the same tire sizes on it as what is now on the XL1200Lr).

Two thumbs up!

Great. Glad to hear. however, I suppose that the change over from the Dunflop to the metzeler had something to do with it.

on a side note...

weekend of july 20th.. tiggerstock

True - true I don't discount that.

For the record, I've changed every Harley I've ever owned from Dungflops to Metzlers when the time came. I know that change alone would produce a difference. I also realize that a change from a worn tire to one with a fresh profile would produce a difference (though I belive less than simply a change from Dungflop to Metz with no size difference).

HOWEVER, what I felt yesterday in that lengthy run-in/test was more.

I definiltely never felt such a change INCREASE bar effort for turn in before, so if that was the only indicator I know something has "changed".

But additionally I really put the sporty through its paces and it performed much better than it ever had so I do think there is more to the change.

YMMV and all that jazz...but I'm happy as could be.

I saw that (subcribed to the thread). That weekend is a question mark for me...but I put it on my calendar JUST IN CASE. Finger's Crossed.

yeah. I defintely agree that the larger profile makes the bike more stable in the turns

On the 110 I have on my 74 IH, I turned the the bolt holes into ovals to raise the fender a full 1/4". The clearance on the sides is the same as Tiggers pics. They really make a diff on gravel.
