Default Seat or chopped fender first?

Hey, I'm considering chopping my fender soon and I was thinking of cutting in the front and rolling it forward. Is this something I can do with a stock seat or should I invest in a springer seat first?

Welcome to the XLForum.

Rolling it forward is kind of old school, if you go this route post some photos. I don't think your seat choice would matter.

IMO Ebay a fender and save your stock parts.

thanks man, yeah its old school but im also afraid that if i slice it across the middle (since being the highest point of the arc in the fender) it would look goofy sitting high off the tire.. Any other suggestions?

There are tons of pics of this sort of thing on here. I'm sure some have details how they did it. I have seen both styles of seat but the seat mount point does matter (ie, the nightster/iron one is farther back than the stock 48 and 06 and prior seat for example). I bought a copy of the stock nightster fender and had it cut back to as far as it would tastefully go with the struts still intact. Many cut the struts back which is a frame modification. Did you want to cut your frame as well? That is not something you can restore back to stock easily but it sure looks cool.

Yeah I was planning on flushing the fender struts up with the fender. I've looked around on the forum a lot, and just about all who have chopped the fender have an aftermarket seat. I don't think I've seen any with the stock seat still on.
