Can someone confirm if my front header is off an XL?
Ok, after a few weeks of thinking of drag pipes, V&H straight shots, short shots for my '99 Evo I have had another look at my OEM headers I got from the US a few months ago.
Tried to set up for fit test, the rear fits the front does not. Front pipe does not swing in far enough to bolt up to the exhaust port.
These were advertised as:
"2004-2006 HARLEY XL1200 OEM EXHAUST HEADER PIPES SPORTSTER CUSTOM HUGGER."
Now that I have searched a bit more today about pipe differences on XL Evo's the only info I have found on the net is that the mounts are different between frame mounted Evo's to rubber mounted Evo's in regards to exhausts.
Anyway, can anyone confirm if the front header in this pic looks like it fits any era of Evo Sportster motor? Would like to find out what they fit so I can re-sell to help get my set of V&H short shots.
Thanks Dave

Kinda hard to tell from the pic (cant see if there is 3 bends or 2)
Look at this pic (crosses fingers and hope pic posts LOL)
See the 3 bends in the front header, I cant tell if yours has three or two, may be just the angle of the pic??

Definitely looks different. The bends are different and the mounting brackets have changed on 04-up. However, I think the exhaust ports are the same. Can you mount at the heads and fab up a bracket?

Thanks for posting the pic up and nice Sporster you have there...think that confirms it then, my front pipe has only 2 bends and has not got the 3rd bend the gets the pipe to the exhaust port face. oh well maybe my pipes are off a big twin?? Thanks Dave

Thanks for the post,
The front pipe I have here is just not long enough to reach the exhaust port face.
Got to agree with you on this, don't know why I didn't think of this when researching info on HP Sportster sites about interchangability of Evo XL heads and cylinders.
Hope I can identify what pipes these are to sell them off.
Will go study my J&P 2012 catalog again.
thanks Dave

Pipes now ok
Ok, an update on my exhaust pipe issues......
Pretty sure the front pipe I had is off a Dyna so went and bought a stock EFI XL pipe taken off a new bike at the local HD dealer.
The front pipe's oxy sensor port will not got to waste, I have an Innovate LM-2 wide band oxygen sensor here so it will come in handy tuning the CV carb when it get my 1200 Evo running.
Now the pipes fit and clear the '77 frame so will be sticking with the old 2-2 taper muffler look for my Evo Ironhead build. Thanks for the help on this guys, the pics posted and the reference to the "3 bends" on a front XL pipe was the turning point for me.
Cheers, Happy Dave.
