It's going to be a little while before I start on it. I hope I can have it finished before the end of October. They'll go nuts over that thing at Strokers.

Biknut, i'm thinking about putting a couple of these together. I would think these bikes arent designed for these speeds, are there any weak points that need to be adressed for safety?

Can you recommend a good inexpensive bike to start with? Are the beach cruisers on bikeberry any good?

This is a Schwinn Clairmont. If you want peddle gears it's a good one. I think walmart has them, but you'll probably have to order it.

Here's one I made from a OP Roller, also from walmart. Hey you ask for inexpensive. This bike was about $350 to build.

This one was from BikeBerry. It's a Micargi Rover I made.

The wheels on all these bikes will fail quickly. They can't handle 30 mph for long. A good wheel that will be dependable, will be about $150 a wheel.

If the bicycle you buy doesn't have a front brake, you'll need one.

Expect to spend a couple hundred on accessories, like hub adapters, and sprockets, and other misc stuff.

When you say the wheels will fail, are we talking catastrophic failure here? Or is it something you will see coming?

You see it coming. First the rims get out of true, Then spokes get lose. Then some spokes break. You can keep patching them up but it's better to get stronger double wall rims, then you can change the brakes at the same time, because you can get any hubs you want. Just like harley's, no matter what you want to do, someone sells a part to do it.

The only difference is instead of costing hundreds of dollars, it just 10s of dollars lol.

I'm not planning to buy one from them, but I'm going to make my own. After checking around I found out complete motor kits with everything you need are available for as little as $115 shipped. I think it looks like fun. It meets my main criteria for fun anyway, it burns gasoline. Total cost is estimated to be under $300.

If anyone has any experience with these things I'd love to hear about it before I get started.
Ok Bikenut I am looking to this I have a bike but need to know where you get your motors from

I had the best luck with Flying Horse motors. They cost slightly more but seem better designed. I bought the last two on sale from BikeBerry. I'm breaking one in right now and I'm really happy with it. http://www.bikeberry.com/gas-engine-kits.html

I've also bought four motors from an eBay store called Boy Go Fast, and Lucky Early Bird. They were a less price, but all of them failed in less then 600 miles. One was so crappy I just took it apart out of the box to use for parts.

Be sure and let me know before you put a motor in service, and I'll tell you what to check first. The good news is these motors are the easiest to work on ever.
