One thing pushin bikes away if not have to fiddle with the gear lever to, do that 20 times a day and you can be a little grumpy.

Bikes just don´t roll away on just a little incline! But hey do whatever you want, exept on my floor
Good Point!

I've raced AMA dirt-bikes for yrs, you never try to kick start a hot bike in gear, specially the new 4 strokes, as it will catch you off guard if your NOT ready for it...the Sporty is the same way..i've seen more noob clowns hit the start button without covering the clutch or first rocking the bike back and forth outta gear before hitting the fire up button..the look of embarrassment on their face is priceless..

I only put my bike into gear UNLESS it's on a steep! Always have for 3.5 decades of riding!

I say the only reason to park your bike in gear is to stop it from rolling off the stand. I've never known my bike to start rolling all by itself on a flat, in the garage or parked in a motel room..

I'd be more worried about it falling over on hot asphalt or sinking in wet grass, but hey crushed beer cans are handy for those moments...

so,

On the flat, neutral.

On a slope, 1st.

Of course it's hard to find any hill at the beaches of NC...

I say the only reason NOT to park it in gear is if your doing some sort of maintenance on it that requires it to be in neutral.

Why go thru the added motion on a flat?...

Speaking of doing maintenance, right now i'm checking both wheel bearings, still don't put it in gear even going on the bikestand, just gets tied down...

I park in neutral unless I'm pointing down hill. If up hill, no problem.

Is that bad for it?
These transmissions are not exactly delicate and Harley's lawyers wrote the manual. I've got one page in mine that 5 different times says "... could result in death or serious injury".

Unless you're coasting downhill and stomp the tranny into first, you're not going to hurt it. Even then you'll probably be OK.
