I would suggest longer fork tubes. Fork extender can bring fitting, adjustment and structural problem.

You can "extend" the fork by changing out the internal damper rods. That (and fork springs/preload) is the key difference between the Iron's front suspension and the R for instance. Seraphan6 has a thread that shows that the stock fork tubes are the same length between the various rubbermount models (particularly the R and the N in that thread) and that changing the travel in the front forks is dictated by the length of the damper rod. As far as I know there are at least three different length damper rods: the 1200R/883R/1200C/833C share the one that gives the most travel; the 1200L in between; and the 1200N/883N/883L have the shortest.
I *think* Nitro went with the 1200L damper rod in his build.

Thanks for jumping in Trace.
She's right, you just need damper rods from an R or C model. All the fork tubes/sliders are the same. I went from N to L and am now using R damper rods with RaceTech springs. The Ls give you an extra 3/4", the R/Cs give you 2".
If you want to keep using the gaitors they'll work with L length but will leave a gap with the R/Cs. I cut up a couple of pairs of HD gaitors and superglued them together - no issues after a year or so. Or there are cheap aftermarket ones that will do the same.

I did but now have Rs with straight rate springs and Intiminators - brilliant package - if you've got the legs!

Yeah I bet!!! And of course, I wish!
When I re-read your post after I replied I took in the 2" increase and kind of figured you may have changed out to the longer damper while I wasn't paying attention.
I've been thinking about my forks again lately and am getting "needy" for that R damper. Think that will be this summer's project while the monsoons happen. After riding Dan's 1200R last year with the stock setup I WANT that travel and while I know I'll have to be careful, I also know my tiptoes do reach
Though needless to say I won't be going 14.25" on the back

Doc, did you do anything to remedy your belt rubbing the muffler support? I'm noticing the same thing on mine after lifting the back end up with the hybrid shocks. I was thinking of grinding out a notch in the support bracket so the belt doesn't touch it, but I'm not sure it is a good idea because I don't want to compromise the structural integrity of the bracket.

Correction, you can run 15" shocks with stock exhaust/slipons. You just gotta space out the crossover pipe bracket, the rear brake bell housing is fine and it stops the belt rubbing. Don't ask, but I broke two exhaust screws finding this out...

What do you mean by space out?
