Interesting. If I were looking for a new bike for me (in addition to another Sporty) I'd consider this. However, I need something I can comfortably carry my wife about and not sure how this would work. I may need to take it for a ride ...

Hmmmm, I continue to not hate the new Softails... weird.

As a matter of fact I MIGHT just have to steal (buy from the dealer) those badges for my FLHP!

OH, but 2018.5? WTF, they JUST released the 2018's two months ago, and the 1/2 year releases are usually early in the new year. More weirdness.

I like it. Enough to spend that kind of coin and give up my Roadster? Maybe not, but I like it (with mids).

I was caught off guard as well. My guess would be there was something preventing it from being released with the rest of the 2018's and the did not want to wait for the winter dealers meeting due to potential lost sales. Perhaps parts availability for the fork or fairing? Or some other part unique to the bike? Who knows these days.

Sure that's a good swag. Another might just be that this is going to be a strategy, to release those 100 new models one or a few at a time throughout the year.

I wonder if Harley is at the big EICMA show going on in Milan right now? That might also explain the timing.

A bunch of manufacturers just debuted new bikes at the show this week including: BMW (new F750/F850), Ducati (Scrambler 1100, Panigale V4, and more), Guzzi (new V7 variants and a concept bike), Indian (concept flat-tracker, though I'm not certain it is at the show, but that would make sense), Royal Enfield (650cc twin), JAPanInc. is all there with concepts and new bikes and more.

It would make sense for Harley to have something to show too. And now that I think of it the clamshell/detachable saddlebags play to EU styling and sensibilities, as does the smaller/lighter chassis of the new Softail line in general.

I should check the show info, but I bet that was it.

EDIT - yeah both Harley and Indian have booths, but I don't think they are huge displays like say Ducati or Guzzi (considering the home field and all that). So I can't tell if they specifically had the new Softail or the Indian concept bikes there but I'd still be on it.

Didn't know about the show and that makes perfect sense. I did see the new bikes from other manufactures get announced. The new Royal Enfield should be interesting to look at. I saw a few comments that it may challenge the Harley Street in India and similar markets

And I, for one, really like those wheels.

That's my guess too...they want these new models to make the maximum "IMPACT" and not glossed over with the rest of the Softies.

Got to throw a leg over one at the local dealer today, hadn't even made it to the showroom yet. If they made/make a Roadster with a fairing and bags like that I would/will trade my '17 when it happens. 4" higher windshield, backrest and rack are available now. Felt pretty good. Needs mids.

Ok, as I suspected. Here's a photo of the Sport Glide in the Harley booth at the Milan EICMA show:
