i never use the enrichner. the plastic mount on it is broken so it doesnt pull out anymore. that is a cold start

Then a pop from even light throttle would be expected...unless you went to a 48 pilot (been there, done that and NOT recommended...especially at or above 5,000 feet)

im going to take it for a good ride at lunch. i thought i had some light pinging at higher rpm on the way to work but not sure. i changed out my back lifters now and the top end is quiet so i imagine the cams are fully opening the valves now so it should run much better

went for a ride at lunch and the top end is soo quiet that i can hear it slighly ping so i backed my ignition off. i had the idle jet at 2.15 turns out and it started with the carb farts and would not stay idling again. i turned it back to 2.5 and seems better. really need new plugs

I'd pull the needle shim, before putting in new plugs. I'd expect good color, after that...but, I've been wrong before. I think the shim was a band aid for the disconnected vacuum hoses.

So i found out i have a vented gas cap already and it is working good, I think i have a bad float, i took the shim out and it seems to have leaned it out a bit. it was pretty fat all around the power band, weird it seems the transistion between mid to WOT is back the way it was a while ago where ther isnt much transision. i wonder if the 185 is too fat, i checked the plugs after riding around town a little bit and i had some black powder so i will back off from 2,5 to 2.25 turns and that should be good, powerband seems smoother than with the shim, going to get another set of plugs and test WOT. weird that the 883 needed the 45/185 with a shim and it seems the 1200 needs less. I think rebuilding the carb and possibly fixing a tank vent problem may have freed up the carb a little, after driving it home on a hot day after 30mins of sitting it releases a bubble in the tank still even after fixing the airflow to the tank. so i unplugged the vent line to the bowl that use to be used for smog. i am going to see if that eliminates the problem and if it doesnt than the only thing that impedes fuel flow is the float and i will have to replace the carb at that point cause i have rebuilt it and used all new parts except the seat and that is machined in

ok so here is what i found out!!!! the vac line that goes to the smog canister needs to be blocked if it isnt connected to the can!!! with it open it apears that the mid to WOT runs rich and when it is hot it causes a delay off throttle. Im getting the dyno done tomorrow at 9am. I now removed the shim form the nokk needle and i think my main is too rich with a 185. amazing it dynoed just fine with the vac line open.
