Default m2 jetting?

i just bought a 2000 m2 with a k&n carbon fiber intake. the bike also has an unknown after market muffler that was cracked and re-welded by previous owner who said most of the packing was lost. anyways the bike runs decent but i checked the jet sizes which are 200 and 42 with the mixture screw still capped. does this sound right or should they be changed? previous owner got the bike this way "besides for muffler cracking and loosing packing" and rode this way for 7 years and 14k miles so it must be ok but could it be better?

slug, it's really hard to jet a guy's bike by internet, all any of us can do is give guidelines. You really have to put it on a dyno, preferably one equipped with an air/fuel sniffer, to evaluate your jetting.

That said, I've personally found more success with a smaller main jet than that, more on the order of a 185, along with a 45 pilot and around 2-1/2 to 3 turns out on the mixture screw. In other words, fatten it lower and lean it higher. The stock needle should be an NOKK if memory serves and that's a good needle, I wouldn't worry about it.

But if you make any changes like this, take steps to verify it. Plug readings are kind of difficult on today's pump gas because they burn so clean, but do take a look. Really, like a said, a dyno with a sniffer is the best method.

I opened up my 2000 M2 today and it had a 200 and 42 and NOKK. I am pretty sure it was stock jets and needle. I got pinging when WOT and hot so I bumped it up to 205 and 45 and tried a NOKG. I have a Forcewinder and a Supertrap muffler... I'll see how it rides this week and go from there...

Have you done the mod to your Forcewinder to make it work with the CV?

It's very, very critical too do this, if you value your engine.

Here's a thread I created about it back in 2002:

Close to it, there should be a boss cast into the outside that acts as a pretty good guide for the depth. I see you have quite the little assistant there!
