If the wrist pin was worn it should knock like crazy when you back-off the gas. This is what I've learned about engine knocks back in my youth:

1. Knock on acceleration= BOSS-302 broken piston noise
2. Knock on deceleration= Wrist pin
3. Knock ALL the time= Big-end rod bearing
