'61 XLCH headlight switch qustion
Got this 2 owner 61 XLCH starting on 1 or 2 kicks, it's sorted pretty well just need lights and a new chain to ride. Don't know how it came when new. I have a toggle switch on back of headlight bucket and a switch on left handlebar. Toggle is on/off and the switch is an on/off, shouldn't there be a high/low switch on handlebar? Pulled it all apart and used a meter across switches and they are just on/off switches. I can wire it to run either a high or low beam full time but seems like there should be a way to switch them. Do I have the wrong handlebar switch?
No ignition switch at this time, only a kill button.
Thanks, Mike

Your bike would have come with a three position rotary switch in the headlight visor when new. (1=off, 2=low beam, 3=high beam). There would have been no hi/low switch on the handlebar. Here is a photo of this style switch on my 1959 XLCH:

switch
Ok and Thanks, if you could sometime post a pic so I'll know what I'm looking for, will take it back to original as time permits.
For now I wired the toggle to run high beam only, pointed down just a bit(already have enough friends) and converted the switch on left bar to a kill switch.

I have a 2 position switch I bought off ebay that screws onto the handle bars. Very simple to hook up and easy to toggle between high and low beam. I have an extra, message me and we can figure a way to get it to you.

Yes you posted a pic. I am on dial up still, before it ever got the pic where I could see it I had already read your note and moved on,,,,,,,,,, may get faster access someday, just don't really need it and when I do I go down the street to my wifes' house where she has DSL. My wife lives 4 houses down across the street been that way close to 20 years, works for us, besides if she lived here I probably could not have a 57 Sportster in the bedroom or a 67 in another bedroom and a 70 in the kitchen,,,,,,,,,,,,
