Default need a windshield recommendation

Hi guys,

I'm taking a long 800 miles ride next week with my gf on a 2005 xl CUSTOM.

I have the lights relocated using a cheapskate conduit hanger, it sits right above the lower tree (which I read is where most QDs latch to).

I'm looking for something to get only for the trip there on the big freeways and then I'll take it off once at the destination.

I also would like something under $300 and won't be buffeting around 75-80mph.

I did read up on some older threads and they all seem to say HD quick release gives problems with wind and buffeting?

I'm hoping to do without any mods like lowers and just get a windshield.

I've also looked at the spitfire from slipstream but was told to avoid any shields that stuck on to the handlebars because of the possibility and danger of being caught in crosswinds.

Any advice and recommendation is welcomed and much appreciated!

See if someone local has a quick release you can borrow. Where are you at?

move your lights below the bottom triple tree clamp and it should work. I have the quick release for both bikes, and they work fine. it really all depends on your height with regard to buffeting I think

im now in socal.

and im 5"8, i rode a rental softail heritage to laughlin and buffeting was CRAZY.

had to ride all the way with feet on the engine guard to prevent the wind blowing my head too hard and making me a retard.

See if you like this.
I find that I get some buffeting at around 80 to 90 mph. Fortunately, I try to stay below these speeds ;-) (I'm 5'11")
For ANY quick-release system, you'll require a fork or handlebar mounting system.
As Diesel mentions, your height is a factor. Air moves in strange ways.
I love my Stinger though. Not unsightly and very effective, at a reasonnable cost.

I have the harley quick release, did have some buffering at first, ended up loosing the top mounting bolt's to the clamps and moving the windsheild foware 1/2''. Buffering is just over my head now. I am 5' 10'' and around 230lbs.

Just buy the "Sport" windshield from HD. It's not quick-release but neither is it *that* much of a pain in the ass to put on and off. It's adjustable too, so you can tweak it to reduce buffeting at the speeds you normally ride. Last summer, I rode with my Sport windscreen all the way from Pensacola, Florida to Washington State (2,600 miles) and the thing was great! (I think it looks a lot better than the big screens too. I don't want my Sporty looking like an Electra-Glide wannabe.) You only get protection for your chest area (it's kind of small), so be aware of that. For $165 you can't go wrong.
