Question help out the new guy

I just purchased my first Sporster on Wednesday and I’m trying to work out all the kinks so this is the first of many questions to come.

Edit: 1997 Sportster 883 maybe has the 1200 kit but i dont know yet.

first thing when I picked it up he said it was running rich, it was bogging down going into first and at higher speeds we I throttled up medium to hard it would sputter and feel like it was going to shut off.

After getting back into town and running it almost empty I got fresh gas and it improved allot at higher speeds but still sputters on the low and has very little power.

Tonight I finally got the F*ing a/c off (very stuck screws) and the filter (K&N) was soaked with fuel and the cover had dripping fuel and black soot all over the inside.

So at this point I’m not going to make assumptions and I’m going to wait for the advice of someone who knows better than me lol thanks ahead of time for and help

Sounds like you've got a leak. Need more information really. What year bike have you got? This should be placed in your heading so we don't have to constantly ask this question.

Check all fuel hoses for cracks. Especially around the clamps. Ensure the petcock is tight. Check for an intake leak.

Those air cleaner screws were probably loc tited. Make sure to use more when replacing it. There have been cases where they have worked themselves loose and gotten sucked into the carb.

Welcome to the forum!
