Thanks to all that posted really useful information. Greatly appreciated. I hope to get this sorted by next weekend.

I have also had this problem on my 03 xl1200c with SE intake. Especially if I ran my bike hard. I would see the the oil on the oil tank cover and also on the top of the back exhaust heat shield. Two weeks ago I decided to fix this. I took apart the intake and sure enough found the problem and fixed it for free. Since then I have rode it hard and have put over a hundred miles on it without a drip. If you disassemble the intake and take out the breather bolts you can use a high temp sealant on all the mating surfaces only of each piece. That is where the oil was leaking on mine. It was running where the air cleaner mounts to the rear head and running down a fin and dripping off. Here are pics of it sealed

You can see how dry it is now in the pics above. I took these pics today to show it's still dry.

Thanks hmmmm, very informative. Trouble is, mine leaks at the filter and the build up is via the butterfly I believe. So then the oil has the chance to drip to the bottom, then eventually over the side oil cover.

I also use a small amount of Permatex Copper high temp sealer for the breather bolts, if I don't I get an annoying drip of oil now and then.

Scott, the Joker a/c has internal pasages to route the oil/blowby/etc to the throttle body, I believe? It may be worthwhile taking the a/c off and cleaning out those passages; or have you already tried that?

Folkie I have had the a/c off, well not me the dealer and for a while it was OK, however it has leaked a bit again recently. This is ongoing from my original warranty, as I have not been available to get the bike down to them, due to weather and other commitments. However they have the umbrella valves in and said they would replace them as a matter of course. I am not so sure this will resolve the issue as I believe it is as the earlier postings suggest, too much oil in the bag. I will mention this to the dealer on Friday, but if it persists, I may consider changing out the a/c for a different type.....and that is a whole new thread!!

Update - The oil leaking from the filter has stopped

The reason for the leaking was one of the umbrella valves was missing the sponge seal underneath. Apparently it was never installed from new, must have been an assembly fault.

I hope this helps anybody else with the same issues.

The blow by on my '06 was getting really bad. I finally replaced the breather filters a couple of weeks ago. Now it's down to a bit of mist at extended high RPM (highway, about 3500 RPM). I've routed it into a small Kuryakyn catch can - I'd rather not dump that into the carb.
