I don't need to hide, just look and you'll see
When all your friends leave, you still will have me.
I give myself freely, to rich and to poor,
and if the need be, I'll give even more.

I'm not shackled by politics, or whimsies of man,
I cross any boundary, and cross any land.
I speak every language, and never need rest,
I'm there in all times, the worst and the best.

It's easy to find me, just look around,
I'm hard to grab hold of, and won't make a sound.
I'll give you a shoulder, on which you can cry,
And be right beside you on the day that you die.

Lucifer,

Just wrote this - it's about the indominable human psyche (or something like that). A don't stop now message.

Human We are

We struggle sometimes, get put in our places
Knocked down a rung, by life's many changes
But we soldier on, with smiles on our faces
Never afraid, to take other chances
And if we should crash
We don't stop believing
We bend over backwards
And pick up the pieces
And stitch them together
With gossamer thread
And chart a new course
Make a new plan
'cause,
Human we are,
We're not quite perfect,
Human we are
We make mistakes
Human we are
We won't stop trying
Human we are
From Cradle to Grave

Reach Out

It's said that there's a special place,
that dwells in the heart of man
It's there that we find our strength,
our peace, our purpose, our plan.

And there resides compassion's cup,
to consume all hate and wrath,
and it's there that rests eternal light,
to show the darkened path.

Yes, this is known by all who love,
and known by all who give,
Whose path can you help light today
Who can you help to live?

This is my first writing because of a personal experience.
Be careful of the truth you seek.
There can be consequences.
I title this........

"The Consequence of Truth"

Melancholy grips my soul,
I ache from a broken heart.
I want to heal the painful wounds
but I don't know where to start.

Everything has come undone,
once pure is now no more,
the eyes disclose the inner pain,
the closing of childhood's door.

The consequence of truth reveals,
the fear that lies within.
To move beyond the innocence,
and start anew again.

Growing Pains

My wisdom seems to grow
An existance not that long
How I wish to know
To sing my living song

Older now than ever
Learning all the time
Trials I always weather
My struggles never rhyme

Questions to the answers
Physically on my mind
Never much the dancer
Always curious, always kind

Living for the historical moments
Growing pains they sure hurt
Flowing with all the currents
Mountains, rocks, sand, and dirt.

One Summers Love

Trapped in paradise
Frozen in time
No special advice
A perfect rhyme

Always remember the meeting
Never forget the place
Living for another greeting
Such a beautiful face

Life takes me far away
Your memories I'll always hold
Always such a perfect day
To remember when I'm old

Our quality time spent
Walking hand in hand
Rains came and went
Barefoot in the sand

A special cove
Kissing your lips
One summers love
One special trip

I've seen some pretty good prose by others here on the XLF. I appreciate all you do. Still got a little gas in the tank but I'm definately on reserve. Think I'll fill-up on Thursday after I bury another beautiful soul. My cousin Kathryn A. Smiley-Andleman passed away Saturday the 11th and it has been so terribly hard on us all. She was a retired artist who used to do the Wild Turkey whiskey advertisement artwork and the Special Olympic's insignia artwork. Rumor has it she was world famous in the artist circles. I know she has gone to a better place. She has and will always remain in my heart. Dearest Kathryn RIP.

Who rides the start electric
And through the mirrors dark
Hears the farness calling
And scorns our song of here

Chained we are both velvet or rust
Knee sunken in care and bled

How chokes the sweetness of seldom
How better the ride eclectic.

May we have a moment of silence for all those lost in 9/11, may it be the towers or the war. Let us remember those who lost, and those who came home lost.

The Price of Freedom

I am just a lonely drunk, whose soul has bled to death.
I often contemplate the escaping of my final breath.
How can I release myself from the prison of my mind?
Will it be the bottle or the trigger; it’s only a matter of time.

I have walked this earth to its corners end,
having witnessed and caused tragedies’ that neither doctor nor time can mend.
Children eviscerated by the hands of “holy men”,
explosions in the night, so loud they could wake the dead,
leaving traces of appendages, and some without a head.
Their bloody faces haunt my mind, and their eyes…their eyes, they never blink.
Tormented by angry ghosts, make it hard to even think.

I have everything in this life that a man could ever want,
However the smile on my face is just a lousy front.
I long to feel happiness, and the simple joys of time,
But fear my heart is too far across the line.
