Default Speedo in headlight bucket & microtach install

First cut the indicator lights off of the stock speedo bracket and cut the excess from above the lights. Then made a piece to weld to it to put the microtach in that would fill the recess in the top triple tree. Added a cover piece across the front to hide the wires. Welded a couple studs underneath to bolt the tach up with. A little filler and paint and voila!

Then cut the sleeve (remainder of the stock bracket) for the speedo to the right height and matched it to the contour of the headlight bucket (7" EMGO). To help match the shape of the bucket I wrapped a thin piece of cardboard around the sleeve, taped it and hacked on that till it matched. Then traced that onto the sleeve and cut it with a dremel with a cutting wheel. Took some filing and sanding to get it to sit right, but wasn't to bad. Eyeballed a centerline on the bucket traced the sleeve and cut out the hole. Had a co-worker TIG the two pieces together. Blended it all together with some filler then rattled canned it with Harley texture black. Relocated the odometer reset set button just below the ignition switch that I previously tucked into the neck gusset. Also gave the trim ring on the speedo a quick polishing job. The speedo is a pretty snug fit, just used some black silicone to hold it in place. If the that fails I'll make a bracket that will use the headlight mounting bolts and the 2 screws on the bottom of the speedo that originally held the bottom cover on.

Sorry I didn't think to take a picture of the bucket and cut down sleeve before it was welded and blended.

My first experience at bondo, took forever to get it to blend smoothly and not show any lines.

Now I'm just waiting for the weather to break enough to clean up the roads so I can go ride.

I know, still need to paint the rear fender after chopping it. One of these days.

Looks neat, wonder though what effect the heat from the bulb will have on the speedo?
other than that its nicer.

Nice work! I think it would better if the speedo were more sculpted into the headlight bucket at an angle. Fit and finish looks very good!

Talk about cleaning up the bike. It looks great! It's almost scary when a Sporty Rider with some skills starts using his imagination...

That would cost a lot of scratch to have something like that done.
