Default Favorite places to ride in West Virginia?

Virginia may be for lovers, but West by-God Virginia is for freedom lovin' hillbillies and Sportsters! I contend that it is one of the best states in which to ride a Sportster. What are some of your favorite places to ride in West Virginia? And that's right it's not western Virginia, it's West Virginia!

Anyway, where do you like to ride? One of mine is the new four lane between Moorefield and Wardensville in the eastern panhandle. This has absolutely got to be one of the most beautiful highways in the US. It's not one of our numerous gorgeous twisties, but I thought I'd mention it.

Glad to see you pronounce it properly. West BY GOD Virginia!

Never did any street riding there as I was but a youngun when I lived up there. Did however have a lot of fun on the moto-cross tracks @ Apallachia lakes and Paw Paw fair grounds though. My dad still lives there in Morgantown (home of the Mountain Fest bike rally). Am planing a trip later this year around June or July.

After you get the lowdown on all the good roads in state there maybe you could show me one while I'm there this summer.

Absolutely no problem. Just give me a yell when you're ready.

Well if you want a little adventure, come on down to the southern part of the state. US 52 can be interesting but somewhat dangerous. US RTE 16 is a good ride through McDowell and Wyoming counties. I like ST RTE20 from Princeton up thru Pipestem and Hinton. Take route 3 from Hinton over to us 219 can be a hoot. These roads tend to be a little rough but they sure are curvy.

Just bought my new sportster this winter. Can't wait to take it on route 60 through Hawks Nest, then open it up on 19 past Summersville and on to Webster County! Gosh I love West Virginia! And oh yea ... We Are Marshall. Had to throw that in there...

Route 50 west out of DC is a nice twistie ride into Elkins, WV. Here's a photo from 1983 about an hour up into the mountains:

MACDowell County absolutely rocks! Where I used to live in Boone County is great too. Just watch out for the dang coal trucks. You all do know there is a WV Riders group on this forum? Why not join?

Route 50 is a great ride. I live about a half mile from it, but it does not go to Elkins as I'm sure you know. The roads you have to pick up on, such as 220 and 33 are even better. Next time you come through, give me a yell. Nice picture by the way. Thanks!

Besides 19 across the New River bridge, route 60 from 19 to the Glen Ferris inn area.
