couple questions on my 06 xl883r
Hello all, I'm new to this site as well as owning my sporty. I bought my 06 XL883R about a month ago (my first) and have been ridin the fool out of it!
It has some sort of high flow air cleaner which looks like k&n maybe, and also has a d&d bobcat 2-1 exhaust and a screaming eagle ignition, which were on there when I got it. It only had about 5k miles when I got it and now has 6. I asked the previous owner if he had done anything to the carb and he said no.
I'm still not very good at navigating this site but I'm sure the info is here somewhere. What I'm wondering is what should I jet my carb at? It pops out the breather when I take off from stops. Which I've been told is from running too lean. Also the other day I had to pull off my pipes while putting on forward controls (to get the old right peg off). So while my pipes were off I noticed that my exhaust valves sorta white.
I'm sure its running too lean and needs to be rejetted, but I'm young and still somewhat ignorant in the way of the carburetor. So if someone could maybe direct me to a thread on this or let me know some popular jet sizes on an 883 with my upgrades, it would be most appreciated!

If it's been upgraded to a high flow air cleaner and not rejetted it's probably running a little lean. By the way, I really like those Bobcat Exhausts. I think they're the best looking 2-1 exhausts on the market. Here's the link you need for properly adjusting your carb: http://www.xlforum.net/vbportal/foru...d.php?t=642408

Welcome from Philly.
I agree with jharback that it is running a little lean. Most likely will need to rejet at least the main.

Also, you may have an intake or exhaust leak:

Welcome from Indiana, You may also try reading the CV40 Carb article on www.nightrider.com which also has some good info. Basically if its popping off idle you either need one size larger pilot which should have been changed when the aircleaner and pipes were changed. Or it also needs to add two #4 washers under the head of the needle to fatten up the mid range. After doing this you may find that you can go down one size on the main!

It may not need richening so much that you actually need to change the slow jet; you may just need to tweek the idle mixture needle.
