Help with Mustang seat!
Ok so I had a post awhile back about the Sundowner seats being loose on my bike. Long story short I returned it no problem and got a Mustang Daytripper seat. I opened the box, looks fantastic (leather is nice, good stitching, good curves, etc) and then I went to install it on my bike. It doesn't fit with my Powercommander V that's under the seat. The programmer sits up about 1/2" - 3/4" to high not letting the back of the seat sit against the fender and therefore I can't bolt the seat down. Called the place I bought it from and they said it only fits stock bikes and its not their problem and want to charge me %15 restocking fee to return it. I love the seat and want to keep it but I need to modify it. I was thinking of taking a dremel and cutting out the fiberglass seat frame right above where the programmer/ecu are sticking up. Just kinda make a little pocket that they will recess into and then I'll be able to bolt the seat down. Otherwise I will just have to send it back and eat the %15 charge. What do you guys think and does anyone have a Mustang seat with a Powercommander? Anybody think of any other ideas? Thanks guys.

Many have opened up the bottom of the seat.

Perhaps this is why the Sundowner seemed loose. It may have been riding on the power commander and rocking from side to side.

No the power commander is made to fit with the stock seat and it does (just barely) and the sundowner is the same seat frame as the stock hd seat. I was able to bolt the sundowner down just fine and it grabbed the retainer in the center fine its just this aftermarket seat isn't deep enough on the bottom to accommodate the extra height that the programmer adds. Just pretty much wondering if anybody had done this to a Mustang seat and if it will make the seat weaker at all, or if you have any other suggestions. Thanks guys.

Ok just got home and took a better look at it and the power commander came with a new ecu holder so the programmer sits under the ecu (recessed into the fender) so the ecu is no higher than with stock setup. Even put the old holder back on, took off the programmer and its no higher than with it on! Still doesn't fit I can see under the seat as I put it on and its clearly hitting the ecu/connector. I wonder if they say fitts 04-09 sportster but it really shouldn't include the efi models?

The rubber bumpers on the left side were touching the bike frame while the bumpers on the right side of the seat were about 1/2" away from touching so I had to push down on the rear of the seat pretty hard to be able to get the screw back in to bolt the seat down. It does touch the ecu/connector but doesnt appear to be smashing it or anything I suppose. I called Mustang and they said that sometimes the bumpers on the right will touch but not the left and vise versa. They said some will touch and you have to push hard to start the screw that's what keeps their seat tight against the bike they claim. It seems ok it does fit just had to push pretty hard (more than I really wanted to I was worried about breaking the ecu connector or something) and I like the seat alot. Maybe their fiberglass seat pan isnt quite true so thats why the one side touches and not the other? Either way it fits and its comfortable and looks great!
